Brian, although it would be longer to get a reply, it's much better to write.

We get so many 'cold calls' in the UK that anyone answering would assume yours was one of them. Assuming you could get connected, (check the dialling code, you may have to knock off a 0) home owners with a caller display might disregard any withheld, unfamiliar or international numbers.

Hi I have tried to ring the phone number for Alan you gave me but I can not get through. It might have something to do with ring from Australia.

I do not have access the Ancestry so your help JooneCloonie would be very much appreciated.

wouldn't it be nice if people put useful information in obituaries occasionally? :-)

like, the surnames of daughters who change names when they marry ...

in any case if Brian doesn't have access to the marriages of the children (at Ancestry e.g.) if he returns to his thread and requests it, I or someone can send the details to him

hi Brian,

you can do searches for names here

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

find his marriage in 1955 as Colford

then search for births with the surname Colford and the mother's surname from that marriage

there were girls born 1958 and 1961 and a boy 1965

(the marriage was in Bolton but the births were not)

if you search for the son here

http://www.freeelectoralroll.co.uk/

... unfortunately, there have been 3 men with the son's name born in England, and the two on the electoral roll are the other two

is this Alan's death notice?

http://announce.jpress.co.uk/chadcouk/obituary/colford-alan/43569290

unfortunately it does not give any family details

and unfortunately, he and his wife seem to have been last listed on the electoral roll in 2003

one daughter married in 1981 and the other in 1987, the son in 2004

based on where he married, I think this is likely to be his listing

Alan was born Alan Hitchcock and changed his name in 1947 to Alan Colford. I believe he had three children Two daughters and a son Nick Colford. He passed away in September this year. The family lived in Bolton, England.
