Thanks for all your help Joonie, if my memory of Uncle Thomas is correct he never married.
Following my fathers death in 1949 contact with both him and his sister, Mary Ann Murray, nee McKenna, eased off.
Thanks a million for everyone's help with my search.

Happy Christmas to one and all.

Donal, since he was born in Belfast and was working and living in Belfast when he retired, isn't it most likely that he died there?

I think we would expect his middle name to be included in the index if he died in England/Wales

(he was living in 1974 and full middle names, and dates of birth, have been included in the index since 1970)

the honours list I posted does show you that he was living in 1974 at least, so you're welcome for that :-)

(it was found on a google search, the only result for his name in varous orders)

again do you recall from when you saw him in 1949 whether he was married?

That neither of the reported deaths in Durham and Fylde for Thomas McKenna mention his second Christian name has me wondering the entry. Certainly my Uncle Thomas Arthur was born in 1909 and was employed in the Post Office. The last time I spoke with him was at my fathers funeral in Dublin in 1949 at which time he was working in Enniskillen.
I hope that one of the reported Thomas's was Thomas Arthur and I can buy a death certificate and put an end to my long, long search.
Many thanks to one and all.

Donal.

Donal do you recall at all what your uncle's occupation was?

I wonder whether this might possibly be him

1974 would have been the year your Thomas was 65 and retired, presumably

JoonieCloonie Report 18 Dec 2015 21:09

this would be his birth so he was born from June to September 1909

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FBP5-PW1

Name Thomas Arthur Mckenna
Event Type Birth
Event Date Jul - Sep 1909
Event Place Belfast, Ireland
Registration Quarter and Year Jul - Sep 1909
Registration District Belfast
Volume Number 1
Page Number 253

that could match either of those deaths (both born June 1909) ...

is it thought that he died in England, or would he have stayed in Ireland?

(the deaths Kathleen posted were in England)

his birth certificate, which you could order, would give you his exact date of birth for comparing with any death record found

Donal, he would have been 40 years old when you last saw him in 1949, do you remember whether he was married or had children?

Thomas was my fathers younger brother and born in 1909 at 148 Albert Street Belfast.
I last saw my uncle at my fathers funeral in Dublin in August 1949.
Any lead will be greatly appreciated.
