Navy overseas marriage

Helen Report 30 Dec 2014 22:15

I am trying to trace a marriage for my grandfather who was in the Navy, but am unable to find it on british records. (he was previously married in England in 1941 but divorced). His death was registered by his widow.
His name was Leslie George Jeffery born 1919 in Landport Portsmouth. Navy number PMX58583
Her Christian names are Ethel Anne Theresa but don't know her maiden name & would like to find out to trace any further children.
The wedding could have taken place overseas, could anyone please help with the search or tell me where I can find out?

Result on a free search on GR - I don't have a sub to view the details. Search parameters 1951 +/-10years

LESLIE JEFFERY
British nationals married overseas 1818-2005
Collections from Great Britain
Country GREECE
Year 1955-60

As there is an absence of a middle initial, it may be (probably is) irrelevant.

Has Ethel died? The informant on her own DC may be a relative. Although on-line gro indices only go up to 2006/7, if she left Will, it might be listed on the Probate Calendar. Should there be such an entry, it would be worth while purchase a copy for £10

There is always the possibility that they lived as man and wife but never made it official.
