UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD DEATH REGISTER

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

I can get the record of a 2006 death register entry but am unable to download it. Any suggestions please?

I have contacted the support group and am waiting for a reply. Last time I had a problem downloading (1901 census), they told me to uninstall & reinstall adobe, which I don't want to do.

"uninstall & reinstall adobe" - that's strange; was not the image a jpeg, Joan? It is in ancestry, find my past and the original 1911 site.

Sorry. I didn't explain it very well. I couldn't even get an image, only the record. I've just realised it was 2006 and the index says death records to 2005. I wonder if this was the reason.

It was Genes Support who told me to uninstall & reinstall adobe - I could get an image of the 1901 census but not download it. I never got an explanation why. I still haven't done it as somehow it doesn't seem right to have to do it! Having said that, I did have a 'new' computer a while ago and didn't have the problem with the old one.

Joy -- Joan has a thread about the census problem, now well down the list. Apparently at thiis site, the 1901 is a pdf, for reasons unknown. I think someone provided Joan with directions for getting around the problem. And yes, telling someone to uninstall and reinstall adobe ... yeesh ...

For this one, I think the answer is that the images aren't available. Ancestry doesn't have recent bmd images either. It appears to be a restriction imposed by the GRO?

(Joan, this is purely personal preference, but I think others share it -- if you can avoid typing in all caps, even in headings, it's appreciated. It feels like being shouted at. ;-) )

Thank you, Janey. I have a vague memory that I might have posted on it - where's that confused emoticon? :-)
:-S
In find my past is "1837-2006 BMDs" so one would think that 2006 would be in genes reunited.

It didn't dawn on me about the 2006 bit until after I posted.

I see what you mean about the capitals Janey and won't use in future. Mind you, it does make your posting easier to find!!

It's in Ruth's thread, it turns out.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/suggestions/thread/1269757

I found that by putting

pdf

in the search box at the top of the Suggestions board.

The way to find your own threads and threads you have posted in is to click on "My threads" over on the left. If you do that, you'll see Ruth's thread right away, since you posted in it.

Thanks for pointing out 'My threads'. It's much easier.

I still haven't sorted out the 1901 problem because I don't want to uninstall and install again. However, I might have to try it as I like to keep electronic copies of everything not just photocopies.

I was under the impression that GRO stopped making bmd records available on the web after 2005

I seem to remember that the reason was that that was when they themselves began keeping records on the computer ...... and that this meant that sites such as ancestry would not have access to those records.
