Hi all
xxx

Yes, very worrying about Frank.

Yesterday (Friday), we won $11, and a free ticket in next week's lottery!

There have been several aftershocks to yesterday's earthquake in the range of magnitude 4 to 5, and we have been warned to expect more

The weather is glorious, if a little too hot for me! The sky is cloudless, and afternoon temperatures are reaching around 28C away from the water. Night-time lows are around 15C. These are temperatures that we normally see in late July and August!

Today, there was a bit of a breeze, and that had a chill to it that felt quite autumn-ish when you were in the shade!

take care everyone

Hello all.

Must admit I am concerned about our Frank. He hasn't been seen since the end of July ??? I sent him a pm last week but it hasn't been opened. I thought I had his personal pm after he sent me greetings for something or other but I can't find it. Do hope all is okay with him.

Just a quick visit as it's nearly bedtime. Love to all our good friends. Cx.

Morning all - well strange kind of a day here - not sure if its going to rain or what - but dry so far - it feels strnage being at home on a Saturday morning. OH has gone to work - he thinks its funny.

We watched the opening of the rugby at work on the IPlayer - our big boss is all in favour as long as we still keep the work going as well. I loved watching the Hakas from the two teams yesteday - very intimidating.

We finished off the 2nd bottle of champagne today - bit of a treat in the afternoon.

Isn't it funny - I feel really tired today & didn't sleep that well either.

Off to potter around the place.

Take care all ;-) ;-) ;-) <3 <3 <3

Hi all
xxx

Bit of a shocker today

There was a magnitude 6.4 earthquake just off the west coast of central Vancouver Island. Some parts of Vancouver and suburbs also felt it. I didn't!

It all depended on where you were, and the kind of ground.

No damage reported and noone injured.

Josie .......... thanks for the update on the rugby! I'm sorry to hear that you are still looking for work. Hope smething turns up soon. xxxx

Hi Everyone

Robert don't be to upset,it is a lot of work to get a Cricket pitch up and running as you would know.
I don't think a game of Rugby is too kind on the grass and it may dig it up a bit .
I think the Aussies are playing as well if I am not wrong,I don't like Rugby very much but it is always good when we play New Zealand

Josie may the best team win.
Sorry to hear you have not managed to find work ,something will come up for you hopefully.

Anne we sit in front of the TV and have our tea on a tray every night , I only set the Dining table if we have visitors for Dinner.
I can't see the point for just the two of us ,it is only more work for me to clear the table.
We are usually watching the news anyway.

Granddaughter had her first Ultrasound today ,her baby is due 26th of April so we have a long time to wait but it does give us a lot of time to shop for baby things.
She is too early to be able to tell what she is having
The Daughter is getting used to the Idea now she was not to pleased first up but her dad.....you could not wipe the smile off his face as he as longed to be a Poppy, our Son in Law is a lovely man and he will make a good Poppy,we are all still working out what we are all going to be called.

We have always been Nan and Poppy to the Grandchildren.

It looks like Dads cousin is coming down in a week or two I should be up to date with everything by then.

We are watching a show made in the UK called Escape to the Country,we love watching what our money could buy in the Uk.
Some of the houses are beautiful ,be nice to have a holiday home there but alas we do not have that kind of money and I can't see myself selling up here and moving back to the Uk,I think my kids would have a fit.

The OH would love to do it for a couple of years ,I don't think I could stand the cold .

Well I am off to watch my show it starts soon.
Have a nice weekend everyone .

Morning Josie - nice to see you back with us again - sorry you are still out of work - i have the same thing with my OH - Its very depressing & he thinks its age as he will be 60 next year.

At least I can still get some OT at the moment.

Its 5 am again - very foggy & damp - very dark - no seagulls - but the cleaners are here early again - so not so much peace & quiet.

I have two days off - OH said take the time to flop a bit as I have done 5 x 12.5 hour days this week - been up at 3am & in bed by 10pm - its been 5 very long days - am only now feeling a bit drained.

Approx 5 hours sleep a night - but at least I am actually sleeping the whole time now - where as before I work around 1 or 1:30 & dozed off again around 3 & felt awful when I got up for work - now I feel great at 3am - its very strange - perhaps I only need a few hours deep sleep.

I think its something that seems to come with age. OH yesterday had 2 lessons 9am till 11:30 am then he was home till 1pm 2 lessons & back home by 3:30 then he had a late lesson 7pm & was home by 9pm.

So I took advantage of 2 hours with my feet up eat dinner on a tray & watched a film I like in peace & quiet. Robin & the 7 hoods with the Rat Pack - quiet enjoyed myself - but the film was different to how i remember it.

Well better see what work is around at the moment.

Its nice to see people back on the thread again - keep popping in for a chat Josie.

Take care all

Hi Everyone,
Well Spring has arrived and as usual the first day was warm and sunny
but since then, while being sunny most days there as been a miserable northerly breeze that makes being outside unpleasant.
Today it is quite gusty and overcast.

Today is the Big Day the World Rugby Cup here in NZ kicks off.
I thought the Americans were over the top when it came to Flag flying. But they have got nothing on NZ it's a wonder you can even see this country, there are so many Flags and Banners every where they are on Cars Trucks Buses, Flagpoles, Buildings, Veranda's houses and fences, lampposts .

The Country is a sea of colours as well as everyone dressed in the colours of their nation.

Over 90,000 fans have descended on NZ.

The Rugby Teams are being hosted by 3 of our 4 major Cities. [Christchurch is still too damaged so is unable to host any of the games or accommodate any of the Teams.]

Where I now live our large Rugby ground is the designated Training Ground for the Welsh Team.

The Welsh Team seemed quite happy to train here,Its about 15mins from their accommodation in the Central City.
Unlike the SCOTTISH Team who did not like it that they would have to travel 15mins from the City to a place called the Hutt Valley which has the most newly upgraded Rugby Grounds in NZ .

The Scottish on seeing a park in Central Wellington know as the Basin Reserve. Insisted that they use this as their training ground.
Totally ignoring the fact that this is exclusively a Cricket Ground where NZ plays it's International games.

But the Scottish insisted. And the Rugby Organizing Committee bowed to their Wishes.
There is bound to be a big Stink When the NZ Cricket Association send a Bill to the NZ Rugby Union for the damage that the Scots will do to the Cricket Pitch.

The first of the matches to be played in Wellington will be the Welsh v South Africa and it is scheduled to be played on Sunday with the weather forecasting widespread rain. Which will hopefully give the Welsh an advantage over the South Africans.

Anne I loved your Air Conditioner story,
my OH is a Early American Car Enthusiast and a walking encyclopedia on the subject.
I had him groaning after I read it out to him. My daughter and her Friend who are Ford Fans where in Hysteric's.

Sylvia wish you could send me some Salmon
I adore Canadian Sockeye Salmon. Which I can only get in Tins and is very expensive.
Tinned Salmon and grapes was all I ate for the first 3 months of my pregnancy with my Daughter.

Am still unemployed, some days it really gets me down but am trying to keep myself occupied and uplifted. but it is not easy when you apply for jobs and get no response and wait for phone calls that never come.
I know it's a while since I have chatted with you but I visit this Board most days and enjoy your conversations.

Time to make myself a Cup of Tea.
Take Care Everyone, catch you all later Josie :-) :-) <3

Hi Everyone

I for one will be very glad when this week is over.

I don't seem to have enough time to scratch myself,I have not done any of my tree for ages.

We are finding lately that the building of houses has slowed some what and people are renovating there old ones instead.

We have had a flood of people wanting quotes to redo there bathrooms and kitchen so there is still a lot of work for the OH and our son but it is reno work.

Dad was fine thanks ,he gets a bit scared when he has his little turns so I always like to see him just to satisfy myself ,now his cousin who is 82 is bugging me to come down again for a holiday .

I do like the guy but he takes over my house and the TV has to have on what he likes ...now I draw the line there,he has just recently gotten over bowl Cancer I am pleased to say.

It was nice and sunny this afternoon so I just went out in the garden for an hour ....there is a few weeds that have popped there heads up over winter but I am well on top of them and it should be a good year for my Roses I am pleased to say.

Anne I to am worried about Frank ,but maybe he is just busy with other things ...he seems to like doing decorating of some kind doesn't he .
I suppose you are all getting prepared for your winter I hope it is not so cold as the last one ,we in turn are getting ready for out Summer,I am not looking forward to that I can tell you .
The older I get the more I hate the heat, the poor air con gets a bashing and so in turn does the Electricity bill....that is going up all the time .

I have to get some dinner going will pop back tonight.

Welcome back Sylvia & what a welcome home present you had - the ferry sounds lovely.

Good to hear its all back under control

Morning all 5am again - dry little cooler - very dark - no stars though - however the seagulls are awake & keeping me company.

Been a very busy little bee here in the office this morning.

One of the girls left yesterday - so cleared the leftovers from the desk - removed the balloon & recycled them to the bosses door - its her 25th year here today - so just a modest displa\y.

Then recycled, reallocated & renamed her special chair to one of the others in my team (the chairs tend to walk if no name on them). These special orthopaedic chairs cost between £650 & £850 each & we have a few here. I try & keep track of them. :-P

Then i took two magnums of champers & placed them in the fridge for this afternoon - they should be nice & cool then. I had a couple of Magnums of Champagne lurking in my cupboard - so the boss said lets have them on Thursday - one Veuve Clicquot & one Laurent Perrier.

So we should have an interesting afternoon.

Cynthia did you know the following:
On 18 April 2007, the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry published the results of a recent joint study by the University of Reading and University of Cagliari that showed moderate consumptions of Champagne may help the brain cope with the trauma of stroke, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's disease. The study found that the groups pre-treated with exposure to Champagne had a higher level of cell restoration compared to the group that wasn't.

My little bit of Did You Know for the day.

I will wonder off in search of work - no that I really need to travel very far today.

Will pop in again later

Take care all

Hi all
xxx

Anne ..... good to see you ahve been keeping the thread afloat ;-)

I've been having a "slob day" today, relaxing after a busy but very enjoyable time away!

We got back late yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) after a great trip "overseas"! The weather was gorgeous, which meant that the ferry trip each way was almost unbelievable ...... bright sun glinting off the waves, blue skies, and clear views of the mountains on both the mainland and the Island as we travelled up the Strait of Georgia between them.

We had a great time .... good food, good friends, and lots of talk. R&J invited us to go to them for Christmas, so that is arranged

We went out for lunch to other friends twice, ................. one served cold sockeye salmon as a salad lunch. SHE had caught the fish (a large one) by herself about a week ago. Delicious!

The second lunch was also salmon .......... this time Salmon Wellington, wrapped in filo pastry. But he'd bought the fish from a fishmonger ..... and it was not sockeye

As you may gather, it is salmon season here!

Having had a very late start to the summer ....... not until July! ............... we are now having glorious weather, with daytime temperatures 25C and up, the kind we normally get in August. BUT the nights are cool, like they usually are in September, so it is easy to sleep!

I do find the daytime temperatures a little too warm ............ but, hey, at this time of year, it's better than rain!

OH was going to go into the Botanical Garden early today ....... but we woke up to the news that there was a forest fire on the university campus, right next to the Garden

The fire was on the side of the road across from the campus, on the VERY steep, forested slope down to the river. They have had to bring in a helicopter to help fight it.

The Garden was never seriously in danger ............... but their parking areas are being used as staging areas for the fire fighters, including landing for the helicopter.

As a result, the Welcome Back Salmon Barbecue for the Volunteer group, due to start at 11:00 am, was cancelled!

BUT the salmon was not wasted ....... the Garden staff bbq'd it for the fire fighters

The fire started in a cavity in a big tree down near the bottom of the slope, near the beach, and was probably human caused .............. the beach there is part of Vancouver's notorious Wreck Beach, very much a clothing optional area ;-) :-D

It could have been a young person, a student, or one of the people who regularly sleep out down there.

We have been associated with the uni for over 40 years, and cannot remember a forest fire so close to campus buildings .......... literally just across a 2-lane road. The campus is surrounded by forests, but other small fires have been much further away, and there was never even a mention of possible evacuation ........ there was this morning, but it was mainly because of the amount of smoke.

Morning all - 5am again - no rain - still dark - no seagulls - but did disturb a fox in our front garden this morning - cleaners have arrived very early this morning - still warm out - still humid & heavy - even after all the rain we had. It didn't stop all day yesterday.

I am not alone - there is life on the thread - welcome back Sue from sunny Perth & Cynthia back from the Planet of the Apes - very interesting.

I think the animation looks wonderful - still prefer the original ones with humans dressed as apes (Roddy Mcdowell - Kim Hunter & Charlton Heston age film not the one in between) the books are fantastic & so clever for that age.

Well no OT this weekend - in one way i am pleased in another i need the cash to keep afloat. This would have been the only weekend this month I coulddo any - never mind something will turn up for me - I always try & eep optimistic & have managed so far (just) - I need a fairy godmother to wave a wand for me somewhere.

Cynthia - i am very worried about Frank as well - i am sure he was going to the states for Thanksgiving but thats November - Hope he hasn't had an accident on that fast bike of his.

Sue hope your dad was ok & look forward to updates from Perth.

Nothing exciting this weekend - just the normal housework etc - will try & get a few mins to put the feet up - have a couple of films i recorded & still not watched yet - as well as needing to do some family history - bit lacking in that area recently. There again - sometimes its good to leave things for a bit as you seem to find more.

Well rabbiting on won't get me anywhere - hope to catch up with Holby tonight as missed it last night as catching up on George gently as missed that on sunday - all i ever seem to do is play catch up around here at the moment.

Looking forward to seeing Emilia Fox on WDYTYA tonight (well tomorrow evening as won't see it tonight) catch up again.

Will try & pop in again later

Take care all ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Waves to Anne! ~~~~~
A week off??? Well done you Anne! Mind you, tidying up in the attic doesn't sound a bundle of fun but I am all for de-cluttering as it does make life easier all round.

Still busy bee-ing around I am. Had grandchildren yesterday and took them to the pictures. We watched something about the Planet of the Apes - deep joy - but they enjoyed it!

Guess everyone else is busy......I have pm'd Frank but not response as yet : do hope everything is okay with him.

We had some horrendous rain here yesterday but it isn't quite as bad today. My grandma always used to say that heavy rain cleaned the pavements and I think she had a good point there.

The grandchildren go back to school tomorrow - those holidays have passed by really quickly.

Love to all, with special thoughts of Evelyn. Cx

Morning all - here wea re at 5am again- very dark morning - very wet - threw it down at 3:20 this morning - was waiting fro the thunder but it didn't happen. Its so hot & humid this morning. It woudl be nice if we are going to have an Indian summer as I have a week off at the end of the month.

Please don't faint - i did say a week off.

It wouldhave been nice to go away for a few days but the pennies are not around to do it with. So we are staying at home & OH has decreed - we are going to clear out the spare room first (remove the junk) as far as I am concerned there isn't any.

Then we are going to start on the attic - this stretches over the whole of the house & its reasonable high in the middle - I think there is more in the attic now than in most of the house & I do agree it does need sorting out.

I think i will start at the furthest reach as thats been there for the last 19 years now. There is still a lot there from when my mum died - i couldn't go through it & time has flown- OH thinks now is the time to sort it while we can still do the clearing out & going to the tip etc. I have a load of childrens toys which I kept in case we had kiddies - but those days are gone now - so need to find a good home for them.

Hopefully we can get some of it moved & I will try & be strong & get rid of the stuff i really don't need - if I haven't used it in 19 years I am not about to use it now.

Start as i mean to go on. ;-) :-S

Some hope with me in the attic :-P OH woudl just tip most of it :-P :-P

Have you seen the Google front page today its amazing - it would have been Freddie mercury's birthday & its a fab idea - I love it - you ahve to play it at home - hope it stays all day & i can turn the sound up at home.

Well Its very quiet here

Glad you had a goodweekend Sue - hope the chinese went down well.
