Not a cake or candle to be seen :-(

But, I think my grandson has had a lovely day, apart from having to go to school! He got a new bike and possible some new trainers....he seemed to be asking us to admire them anyway......???? His feet are nearly as big as my OH's feet!

We watched some old videos of when he was young.....cringing as we saw ourselves on the tv......arrgghhh.

This was a flying visit.....so bye for now~~~~

ps. lovely pic Frank.

Hi Frank

yes .............. but also we have the annual meeting of a society that we're in.

They're meeting in Halifax, so that is why we are going in July.

Wouldn't otherwise travel over there in high summer .......... high prices and tourists! :-P

We'll have just over a week with J&M, 4-5 days at the meetings, and then the train for 6 days.

I keep hearing about high temperatures in England. We're still below normal temps, and a lot of rain. :-P

Sylvia, you win a prize.......... a year's subscription to Genes Reunited complaints department. ;-)

Is that you off to see M&J again, that train trip sounds lovely.

I always enjoyed travelling to the South of France every year on holiday when we were young as it was a train from Glasgow to Dover then across the channel and on to the couchette (sleeper) all the way to Nice. It was quite magical to awaken to the sunshine and warmth on the Mediteranean as the train made it's way south. :-) :-) <3

No holidays this year as last year's two American trips and two christenings have taken their toll...............we'll just stay at home and enjoy all the lovely weather. :-S :-S :-S

I see England are having a drought and a hosepipe ban...... lucky you.

'Ere mate, wanna buy some good Scottish water................... :-P :-( :-D

Where's our Cynthia today, to busy blowing out candles and eating cake. ;-)

Thanks Anne,

That was the aftermath of little Nieve stealing Sophia's dummy / pacifier with Sophia laughing when she realised that her mouth was empty and Nieve had her pacifier / dummy :-S.................. she promptly stole it back and then we had role reversal :-P :-D

Pizza mmmm, why didn't I think of that.......... just had baked potato and baked beans straight from the microwave.

I'm a survivor :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D Ooops, sorry Susan :-P :-S :-D

Not to worry Anne, I thought Susan was talking about pencil pleats.

Ooooh 2000 coming up, come on ladies......... <3

Hi Everyone

Anne
I pinched pleat ....if you can imagine folding the top of your curtains over for two folds at the top/ longways then sewing it together ,when you hang them you buy a curtain pin with three pegs and they go up into the top of the curtain .
It has a hook on the opposite side and that hangs on a rod that slide to the side of the window.
Very easy really,,they are used a lot in OZ because we like full block out's to keep the house cool.

I may say I have made my own curtains at times but it is very time consuming, and you can buy them ready made for a lot cheaper these days.

Well I had better get off and spend some time with the OH or I shall be in trouble.

Frank really likes the Icon s does'nt he.

Suex <3 :-) :-) :-)

Tabitha Report 10 Jun 2011 13:59

Showing my ignorance - whats a Pinch Pleat and do you have to have special runners? I just have the normal kind of curtains on a plastic runner - haven't had new curtains in a long time - they were very expensive then.

Its only a small house two small windows width Wize but they are quite long - same in the bedroom (they mirror each other) so i just buy 1 pair of curatins for each as one curtain covers the whole window - just need very long floor to ceiling ones & one pair between the study & spare room as only one window in each. The other windows are all Venetian blinds - Gold in the kitchen windows, Pink in the bathroom & loo windows & mauve on the staircase.

Must be a lot easier living in a shell - somthing like the boat mr Peggety lived in, in David Copperfield.

Getting very concerned about Evelyn.

Sylvia what a strange thing to happen are they going to let you back as a founder member at the cheaper rate?

Frank i am not at all jealous :-P
Its nice to see you displaying so much affection for Cynthia.

Cynthia - hope Grandson's birthday goes well - start of the interesting years - my nephew is 14 now and not quite getting to grunt at you but close. Only wants a hug theses days - too old for a kiss.

Well back to the manic workday - and i am in tomorrow as well - mad fool that I am :-( :-( :-( :-(

Take care all <3

Hi all
xxx

was unable to post for one whole day ...... been having subscription "debate" with GR.

Long story short ........ they decided to charge my credit card in US dollars for my renewal. No idea what that was in £ (didn't tell me), but it did mean that I would be paying extra when US $ were translated to Can $ by credit card company. Objected. much to and fro'ing of emails.

Was reduced to Free Member when GR refunded my cc. Have had to re-join at the much higher "newbie" rate. Now waiting for GR to refund my cc with the difference between that and the rate they quoted me in an email on May 22!

Anyway ...... you didn't get rid of me :-D

I need new curtains for at least 3 rooms ................ the living room and dining room flow into each other, so the curtains need to match in there. Family room has a wall of windows.

Current ones are pinch pleated, and so we have all the rods etc. BUT the fashion here now is for curtains hanging by loops of material from rods.

Great selection in those. Not much choice in pinch pleat. Could have them made to order ...... but horribly expensive!

OH's trip sounds wonderful Frank!

We'll be riding the Canadian trains again next month ............ the main part of the trip from Toronto to Vancouver is in "the original stainless steel carriages built in the 1950s". Insides now being updated ...... for the umpteenth time since 1950. Engine is "modern"

take care everyone

Cynthia Report 9 Jun 2011 20:57

Glad to hear it Frank. :D

Just wondering how you are going to burn food.....in a freezer! :P

Took curtains back but couldn't find any others :-(

Was all 'curtained out' after half an hour! Never mind, it's not urgent so I will be patient.

Sounds like you're struggling there Anne..........don't go overdoing it :-)

Grandson is 12 tomorrow so have been busy making a funny card for him, Had to go and get some ink....makes it a very expensive card though!

Love to all......Cx

Anne, we arrived at the hotel in Windermere just as the twin towers were being hit which rather took the fun out of our break, lovely though it was...........
I can recall not buying a newspaper all week as I just could not face reading about it !

Just checked the forecast for Saturday in Keighley and it's rain so looks like I've got off lightly with a shower :-P :-D :-D :-D

Susan, it has to be sausage, egg & chips..... mmmm

Cynthia and afffection all in the same sentence ?? <3 :-D ;-)

Shame about the curtains Cynthia - they sound very nice - what a way to describe your OH

Susan yours sound good - nice to see you are still a little English

Frank very impressed with your DIY skills - no rolling pins out after your little display of affection to Cynthia.

I loved the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway - its a wonderful trip - I adore Haworth and have been there many times - always in lovely weather.

We must have been in the Lake District at the same time we were there in September 2001 and it tipped it down most of the time as well.

We still enjoyed ourselves no matter what.

Well must away back to the grindstone again

Take care all :-)

Hi Everyone

My curtains fit good,I had to take them up as usual.

I bought them with pinch pleats already done for me so not too much can go wrong really...just needed a new curtain rod so I got one that pulls the curtains too for you.
We always use full block out here as it helps with the heat in Summer.

Elaine welcome ..we are a bit mad as Anne said but we do also have a laugh from time to time and with the help of our own in house computer tech in Frank we get by,he is also very handy at all types of renovation work.

Reece nice to hear from you again and happy to see your are doing OK.

It is very cold here at the moment not much rain of late but hoping for some over the weekend.
Might go out and get some more wood on Saturday weather permitting.

Well I had better get dinner going for the worker,he got roast Pork last night so tonight he gets cold meat with egg and chips ....I still have a bit of English left in me ;-)
