Hey Sylvia,

Just had this crazy vision of you wandering about the house in your Wynsyette nightie with a lamp on your head resembling a demented Dalek trying to light all of your candles :))

Here's a wee quote from BBC2 Horizon. "What is reality"

If you think you are understanding holographic principle then you are not because nobody gets it ................

WHIT........... ! and I thought understanding women was difficult :)

Hi all

well, we had an interesting evening yesterday!

all set for a peaceful time on the computer, and OH on his computer downstairs, when the power suddenly went out at about 7:45 pm and we were in almost pitch blackness ........... which meant the street lights had also gone out.

Found the torch (I have one in almost every room), then found the candles, and lit a few, while OH phoned the electricity hot line

hmmmmmmmmm

"we know there is an outage in your area. Power should be resumed by 11 pm Monday January 17"

hmmmmmmmmmm

OH went for a walk to see how many people were affected ......... a rectangular block of something like 50 houses.

I lit more candles

found my book headlight (great for travelling!), and we settled down to reading by candlelight

also made some plans for how to get hot water for tea ........ camp stove or visiting the local Starbucks

power came back on about 8:50 pm

.............. and we then had to spend nearly an hour setting all the clocks, microwaves, answer machines, tv, etc etc etc

at least the computer didn't need re-setting!

Take care everyone

Sylvia I do agree - its a show house not a home - its always the same with him

Sue - forgot to mention - what good news about your dad & auntie

Tend to get sidetracked some days

Its bedlam here - too busy firefighting to know what we are doing -

Well its stopped raining & the sun may be on the way out (for a change)

No snowdrops yet - but then i don't often see the garden in daylight, except at weekends at the moment - darkish when i leave & darker when I get home.

Will wander off now & see what is going on - just for a break

Take care all

Hi all

Josie ............. hope all is going well with the dental work

OH is also having massive work done .................. but he went for having implants installed. Started last March, may have a proper mouthful of teeth come this March!

He's still very much the toothless wonder at the moment ................. he's always had to have a lot of work done, fillings or crowns done or replaced almost every year. So they have to make sure that old work is all replaced, or at least checked.

we've been told to expect in the range of $50,000

gulp

and our extended dental insurance will not cover most of it.

it should however mean that his teeth will be good to the end

Lovely, C ..... I love to see the snowdrops. Had a look round our garden eysterday .......... no sign of them showing yet

But it probably won't be long as the temp is up around 10C ........ sigh ......... there really is more winter to come.

Sue ....... glad to hear your Dad has improved so much, and that your aunt is doing well.

Anne .............. he'll get his comeuppance! What goes around, and all that.

Like C, I'd rather have a home not a show house

Take care everyone

Hiya Wayno!! Long time no see! Good to have you back - have been thinking about you whilst listening to the terrible news from out there. Lovely to know that the community spirit is alive and well - I suppose that's how it was in the war....but wasn't around then!

Frank, thank you for the advice. Am going to have a go at IE8 when I get a minute. Hope you both fully recover soon. Mind you, the older one gets, the longer it can take.....!! Look after the sporran.

Dentists? I would much rather go to the dentist than to the docs. Ours has a tv in the ceiling which you can watch to take your mind off things but, to be honest, it is all relatively pain free now. Glad your mouth is settling down though Josie....

I've often wondered how people who live in these mansions can call them home. We have friends in that situation but the house they last lived in was like a Hollywood set. Not sure I would want a swimming pool just off my kitchen to be honest. I like somewhere cosy to settle down so that I can strew my papers all over the place.

Only 3.30pm but it's going very gloomy here. Quite mild but damp. Our snowdrops are beginning to show their heads which is a sight I always enjoy.

Take care. Cx

Keep up the good work everyone - we may get to 2000 yet

Lovely to have you back Frank & a quick visit from Wyne - still no Evelyn

I spoke to someone in Cairn;s on Friday - they had a very nasty tropical storm - it sounded terrible.

Hope Whitley Bay was a hoot Robert

Josie it sounds awful - I had terrible trouble with my teeth when I was young & found a wonderful dentist - she is not cheap but she is good & I have great confidence in her - even had fillings done without a jab - I also once had a root canal without a jab - now that is impressive & I went back to work straight after. I know I am mad

We went to the outlaws yesterday - My OH's nephew (the one with more money than he knows what to do with - but won't attempt to offer us help) is moving again - this time to a mansion a couple of roads away from where he is now - this one is over the road from the golf course & has its own swimming pool (Heated) - 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms & 6 reception rooms (all for 2 adults & a very spoilt child) It also has a very large garden - the biggest in the area as well as electronic gates to enter the property.

Well I know 2 people who will not get an invite - nor are we that interested anyway - Its all show - not a proper home - something like the Celine Dion pictures that were in OK when she had her first son - it all looked so fake.

Well this won't get any family tree work done - will it

Take care all - pop in again later

Hi Everyone

Wayno !! nice to hear from you again,I am so pleased to hear the Murry is all back to its best .
Just goes to show what a ggod lot of rain can do and with good management it should now have anew lease on life.

I am very impressed with Queensland and NSW with there people and all the help that others are giving it is wonderfull to see.
My surprise is the young ones ,instead of drinking themselves into a stuper and fighting everyone that looks at them they are out helping.
Very good to see.

Josie you sound like you have been through the wars ,I too hate the dentist but I did find one about 10 years ago that was very different than the rest and now I don't mind going to see him at all.
I hope you get well soon.

We went up to Perth on this weekend to see Dad,he is fine and can now see well,he has recovered from his stroke and back to normal and my Aunt in the UK is well on the mend so I can stop worrying.

We are watching the cricket at the moment and we are in front Yipeeeee.
I had better not speak to soon.
Catch you all later.

Wayno keep us up to date with your end and stay safe.

Hi Everyone,
The Floods in Queensland are certainly devastating, about 160,000 Kiwis live in Queensland. Hence a lot of assistance from NZ.

My Son's friend came over from Brisbane at New Year to stay and we were worried when the Flooding was affecting Brisbane City itself. But he rang home and his Mother and Sister where perfectly all right.

Though I found it disconcerting to hear of areas under water where I had walked when I visited Brisbane a couple of years ago.

It's certainly not a good outlook for your part of the Country either Wayno.

One ironic thing from the Flood through Brisbane's business district was, that The Office for the New Zealand Earthquake and Disasters Commission had to be evacuated, because of the rising waters.

It was strategically sighted in Queensland in case an Earthquake in NZ destroyed it.. Currently the office is still dealing with all the Claims from The Christchurch Earthquake.

Feeling Good today pain and swelling from the Teeth extractions on Thursday has gone but still have a very tender lower gum and can only eat soft foods carefully.
My Mouth was a real mess, missing teeth, chipped and broken teeth and lots of infection.
When I was a child I was given an Antibiotic [not used anymore] that stripped the enamel from my teeth, I finished up having loads of fillings and since having children my teeth have started crumbling apart, I have already had 6 teeth out. I no longer have any lower molars and now 4 front top teeth are disintegrating.

Dental care here in New Zealand is very expensive. Coupled with a terrible fear of the Dentist has sean my mouth get into a bad way.

Just before Christmas, A Special Someone took me by the hand literally to a Dental Surgeon who gave me a full assessment of my teeth, something that I had never had done by my Dentist.

End of Feb I am having the fillings removed from 5 teeth and new composite ones put in. Then the third stage will be in October when I will have 6 more teeth extracted including my 4 Front teeth and dentures put in top and bottom, so for Christmas I am going to have 4 new front teeth, plus a mouth full of good looking teeth.
The best thing is that I had Buck Teeth and I now have the option to have my Teeth anyway I like I even get to choose the colour of my teeth.

The dental surgeon is amazing very loverly and reassuring and she uses the latest Lazer technology and best of all she uses sedatives.

Of Course it does not come cheap all up it is costing NZ $8,000.
Hence the need to do it in 3 stages.

But it is well worth it, knowing I won't be toothless in my old age and my general health is going to improve massively. I am going to be able to finnaly say goodbye to continual Sinus infections, that have been a result of the state of my mouth.

Take care everyone, Catch you all later Josie

Hi everyone

Wayne ....... lovely to see you, and to get an update on your situation

I had forgotten that the water in QLD and NSW all eventually drain into the Murray.

I remember seeing boards on a tree by the river in Echuca, marking the height reached in various floods. The 1870 flood level was way way up ... ??? 15' or 20' ?????

we're having heavy rain here, but nothing like what you are having!

Hi Yah Gang

Just to let you all know that everything is ok at my end for the moment in regards to our rising river levels.
Much of this has been let out to sea so it can flush out all the salt etc; bird life etc; has increased dramatically, seeing some that have not been around for years, fish are in abundance for those that like river fishing, but the main concern will be the ferry crossings as they may have to be all shut down until it drops, but we will see.

As you have seen on your TV's that there has been quite a bit of disaster flooding in QLD, NSW, VIC and Tassy. Some towns have never ever seen a wall of water 12 mtrs high, so it pretty bad in places across those states.

Most of the Qld and NSW flood water is headed our way via all the rivers that feed into the Darling river then that all flows into our Mighty Murray.

Everyone down this end will need to start taking drastic precautions NOW if not they will not be prepared for a what we call a 56 flood.
Personally I am predicting much higher than that as I still have family that are very old paddle wheeler masters and they have also said that.
The aboriginals are also stating that it will be a big "pickninny" flood.

Where I live is on higher ground but will see a mass of water out on the river flats that will cut off the road that takes us to the ferry to cross the river.
It will just make things a little harder to get to but we do have roads up higher so we will not be cut off like a lot of people that live on the rivers edge and man made river-mariners .

Being communities like we are we will all band together and won't let it beat us.

We have decided to hold a dance at the local hall for all the flood victims on the eastern sea board and proceeds of that will goto the flood relief committee.

Regards

Wayno

Hi all

Frank ....... welcome back, hope you are feeling much better.

Frank and Cynthia ................. I loaded Mozilla Firefox to use on sites that won't accept IE6 ..... which I still like and will continue to use as long as I can, even on GR!

It was very easy to load, and relatively simple to use.

I keep hearing of problems with IE7 and IE8, and of people getting rid of them.

It's raining here ............ had 40 mm in 24 hours ending this morning. Result ............. land slips and mud slides on the major highways east.

basically, for a time this morning, Vancouver was cut off from road access to eastern Canada!

Now (just after 12:30 pm), the sun is shining .......... but the rain is due back tonight and over the weekend.

Anne ..... sorry that you did not get the job, but it sounds as though it will be more pleasant NOT to be doing it!

Hello again, I'm back.................

My dear wife has been off work all week with that chesty horrible thingy (Cynthia speak) which affected me for the last couple of weeks except that she suffers from asthma so it does to hit her hard.
Result is she has been living on the computer with Facebook .....Don't worry Robert, it's just another way for a bunch of women to blether away for hours, not for real people like you and I :)

I didn't like to upset her with her being so poorly so I just left her with the computer all week and tonight she feels a bit better....... funny that, it's Friday !!

Absolutely shocked by all the flooding around the world, Australia, Brazil, Sri Lanka, apparently all affected by the same oceanic currents.... La NiƱa.

Did you see the woman in Brazil being pulled to safety with a rope but risking her own life by clinging on to her little dog.... she dropped it as she was pulled up.

Anne, sorry about the promotion but take heart from the fact that you won't get any ulcers worrying about work.

Now then Cynthia, what are you running at present.
Windows XP..... Internet Explorer 6 or 7.

What are you being asked to use as Inernet Explorer 8 is available from the following site.

http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/internet-explorer/worldwide-sites.aspx

When you download it IE 8 will automatically take over from your present one or will ask if you want it to do so.
If you don't like it, just go into programs and uninstall IE 8 which will leave the original program still there.

Other browsers are available with the same advice as above although you may have to tell them to run instead of IE6/7.
Don't uninstall your original IE6/7 as they are used for a lot of Windows programs..................

Firefox...... http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Google Chrome...... http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en-GB/landing_tv.html

Safari.............. http://www.apple.com/safari/download/

Come back on if you are stuck and send any blank cheques to my PO Box ;))

Sorry you didn't get the job Anne but you don't sound too worried by it all. Nice postitive attitude!

Sue, the floods are unbearable to watch and it's happening in several place now isn't it?

The problem I had with my ignition on my cooker has finally been fixed. The thing is, when I gave the chap the cheque, I inadvertently tore out TWO cheques without realising. My OH was looking and saw the blank cheque stub.....arghhhhh I had given the man a blank cheque! I was not flavour of the month as you may imagine. I immediately phoned and he had found it and is dropping it off this morning. whew.

Very mild here today thank goodness and I am looking forward to the time when I can hang the washing out again without having to use the drier.

Now, where's that Frank of ours? I want to know is it simple and safe to download a new browser on my desktop? I am on a certain site where one can chat but, apparently, my desktop browser is too out of date to do that. Will I lose anything or what?

Hope he is well enough to answer as I haven't seen him around.......

~~~~~~~~~~~ haven't forgotten our venerable Robert. Good morning Robert and I hope all is well with you.
Now to face the day..........Love to all Cx
Hi Everyone
I to have been missing cynthia ,can't take my eyes off of the TV at the moment .
It is really heartbreaking for all conserned.
The water levels are still to high for the people to go back in and clean up if they can in some cases.
It is going to take months ,years even for some.
When the water level drops they will start to find the dead who have just been washed away especially those in Toowomba where the wall of water came in .
The whole of OZ in is collection mode to help out .
On the other side us ,we are sweltering,I would love some rain but not what they had.
Washing today ,I won't be ironing though...to hot for that today.
Anne sorry to hear about your friends Cat,not a fan of cats myself but I appreciate your lose.
Back to the Washing and the TV.
