Whenever I try the "You have interesting eyes" routine with my OH, she just slaps my hand and tells me to behave myself ;)

Cynthia Report 11 Nov 2010 18:15

"You have interesting eyes".......isn't that what your OH said to you when you first met Sylvia??? lol Hope it all goes well.

Hope the physio was able to help your OH Sue, because 5 years is a long time to wait when in pain.

Apparently there has been some snow on high ground but nothing seen as yet. I really, really, don't want another winter like the last one. A long hot summer is what I would like - but not too hot!

Tomorrow is my OH's birthday, so today a friend took us out for lunch. We thought we were just going to a local restaurant but no, we went on a 30 minute very pleasant drive to a special place. It was a lovely meal and a very kind thought from our friend.

Love to all. Cx.

Hi Everyone

I am about to leave for thr Physio.the Oh is really in a bad way with his nexk and back.
It is an old complaint that he had 4 yrs ago and with his job keeps on coming back,I suspect it won't go away until he retires but he has another 5 yrs to go before that happens.
I hope the Physio can help anyway he has not been to one before.

Our rain has left us for a while but a few showers every two hours .

Tell me over in the UK have you had any snow yet,I think you may be infor the same Christmas as last year, all our weather people are making those predictions for you guys anyway going buy the temps in the Oceans.

I know what we can expect , a long hot Summer.

Better get going check back in tonight.
Have a good day everyone .

Hi all

Lovely sunny day here ........... between the pouring rain of yesterday and the threatened heavy rain for tomorrow!

Had my eyes tested ...... not much change, but I got a new prescription ........ the frames I've got are in danger of falling apart!

She wants me to go and see a specialist in retinas .......... just to make sure that there isn't a problem.

One does begin to wonder when an expert says things like "you have very interesting eyes" when referring to the retina!

Tomorrow, November 11, is a statutory holiday in Canada ...... services will be held at all the Cenotaphs across the country, and in all the small villages as well.

Good Morning all, it is a lovely bright brisk day here in Guernsey and all is well in our world.
Grandma had a gooseberry bush in her garden Cynthia do you think she wanted a wife for her son and found my mother for him under the said bush, that might explain why we can find no trace of mother prior to 1929.
Just checked the receipt for my new glasses £426.29, when I was first married I could have bought a house for that,I realise that wages were much less of course in those days also I am grateful that the optician makes it easier for me to be able to read etc.
Ron and I are now going food shopping(what an adventure) one of our local supermarkets does 10% off for OAPs every other Wednesday.
Granddaughters eye seems to be O K at the moment, she is doing remarkably well with her golf and has recentely won 4 trophies, well done Chloe.
We have lit the multi fuel stove and have a nice warm house and plenty of hot water, arent we well blessed compared to some folk, Ron always says no we are not blessed we have worked hard for what we have, true but lots of folk also work hard and still have little to show for it, so I shall continue to feel happy to be me.
Must get the coat on and go and face the supermarket hopefully will get some lambshanks, cook them slowly for tea, yummy.
Bye for now love to all

Frank.......I like potato salad.....how did you guess?

Where have all the nice folk gone you ask......well, in general I always find more nice folk that not so nice. I do get fed up with the media always homing in on the negative attitude of society rather than the positive. What really, really, really, aggravates me is when there has been a disaster of some sort and a reporter pushes his microphone under a devasted person's nose and asks how they feel......arrgghh.

I used to buy the Scottish Sunday Post simply because their news was mostly uplifting and interesting. Not a hint of a scandal or intrusion into celebrities private lives anywhere. Good articles about good people and, of course, I was introduced to Oor Willie and The Broons.

Thinks...........

I wonder which of those characters is most like our Frank??

Hmm.

Hope today is better for you Anne and that you get some time to relax.

Well, it looks as though it has stopped raining here for a while at least, so must get myself motivated for the day.

Bye all. Cx

Hi all

Typical Vancover November day today ................. pouring with rain, about 5 or 6C but feeling much colder

Had to go to the docs for my annual check-up and flu shot ........ wore my winter jacket for the first time. OH only sprayed it yesterday to make sure it was waterproof, so that was well-timed!

Anyway, I'm healthy ... especailly if I take all the medications!!!

Going for an eye test tomorrow, came home to a message on the tape , courtesy call reminding me of the appointment and adding "Remember to bring sunglasses as you will need them"

bloomin' pouring out there, and I have to take sunglasses!!!!!

Hope there's a weather change!

Rain? Don't mention the word! Sick to death of the stuff!

Went into town with OH yesterday but that was enough...it just poured later.

Lovely to hear from Evelyn again and to know how things are going there. The price of specs! Horrendous indeed. I don't know about a stork Evelyn, but do you remember having a gooseberry bush in the garden??

So sorry about your friend Sylvia, it's very difficult to think of the right thing to say at times like that but I am sure you will rise to the occasion.

Poor Grumpy Anne.......don't worry, we all have grumpy days, just hope that the gloom has lifted a little now.

Sue

We have enough rain thank you - would you like some of ours? Sure Cynthia has got the same - your prices for glasses are not far off ours - thats about £250 in GBP.

Today is a grumpy day - all the calls seems to have a grumble about them - i seem to have been doing a lot of work - but getting nowhere fast & have nothing to show for it. Its so annoying & upsetting - gets you all grumpy yourself.

Seem to have lost a few people along the way.

Had a good evening last night - got in - put dinner on - did the ironing - dished up dinner watched Fringe (while eating before OH came in & moaned about the rubbish on TV) - then we sat & watched The Mentalist - well I started to watch it - then it finished - no idea what happened in between - oh breathing deeply - so got a drink - sat & watched the last of Spooks (saw the first 5 mins & missed the end as well) Well it will be repeated at some point in time.

Decided to give up & go to bed - couldn't sleep (am i surprised)

I lead such a fun filled life - i have Friday off (but working Overtime on Saturday) making the most of the extra cash if i can.

Well back to the grumbling again see if this afternoon brightens up at all.

Enjoy your day babysitting Sue - let me know if she teaches you any tricks on the PC

Take care all

Hi Everyone

Sylvia very sorry to hear about your dear friend, there seems to be so many people looseing friends and family as we get older ,one of the sad things about getting older I guess
As long as we let them know what they mean to us while we have them is important and I am sure your friend already knows this.

We have had some very welcome rain overnight and it has not stopped all day so far,I ran out the front yesterday and put some furtiliiser on the lawns so the rain could wash it in ,saves me wasteing tap water.

Have the 18yr old Grandaughter today she has a cold and being a child care worker she can't go to work with it so I am the baby sitter today.

We do have fun together she can teach mwe a few things on the computer.

Your prices for spec sound very expensive to me ,they are not that price in OZ.
The last pair I bought were $400 that is with glasses that turn into sunnies when I go outside and a protective coating on the inside and outside, including frames.
My sight is a plus 6 so they are fairly thick lenses.

Rain still pooring down ,I might light the fire I think.

Check in later

Oh Sylvia - I am so sorry - what can you say - its all so sad

A friend of ours married later in life - 2nd time for both & both over 60 - they had 4 years living together - but only 2 years married

Frank thank you for the info - we are satellite with Sky - we were thinking of going all Sky - but heard a lot of people had problems with the broadband

BT just sent us an offer - but we don't want their TV as it dosen't give you some of the channels we watch

Total nightmare - no idea what to do with it all - Bit gibberish to me.

Waves ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ to all absent friends
Reece - Josie - Catherine

Not quite so manic on the work front - however everyone wants to go away for Christmas or New Year
The word on the street is - the nearer to a big holiday the more chance of getting availability or good deals - WRONG WRONG WRONG

We had a family call in, in Feb - large Xmas booking for 4 adults 6 children - offered them good flights and lovely hotel or beach villa - really good price (considering its Xams & New Year) - they went off to think about it.
Came back to us in April - differnet destination - again not bad price and availability but selling out fast - off they went again.
Called back in July - back tot he first option - only economy flights and couldn't do a beach villa only 2 suites & 2 rooms - didn't like that - back to 2nd option - nothing at all - went off to consider another destination.
Called back last week to book their holiday as of course its better to book nearer the time of departure. They also wanted to add another 2 adults and 4 children (wanted first option) not even 1 seat on the flight let alone hotel room. Tried 2nd destination - no good - had to start all over again looking for somewhere hot.
All thats left is Mexico - Miami - & a few other odd places - they are so not happy. They think its our fault now as we shoudl have held things for them - well the airline would have canx a long time again if they hadn't been ticketed.

Back to the drawing board - another one called in last week for a Ski holiday over Christmas - Now that is also a silly idea - Most of these were booked up before April.

Still getting loads of Take That enquiries - aaaaaaaaaaaagh

Will be wondering back to work soon as I have a load of New York bookings to do so need a long afternoon. I need to book up for Lulla belle in search of Santa and a private lunch for 14 people.

That should be fun.

Take care all

not too happy today

I have just heard that someone I met in 1959 when we started at Liverpool uni, sharing a room in Hall, and had maintained contact with ever since, has been given 3-6 months to live.

Her husband (much older than she was) died about 5 or 6 years ago.

She then re-made contact on Friends Reunited with her boyfriend from uni ..... he had emigrated to Australia, but his marriage was up the tube and they were living separately.

They met up when he visited home, and hit it off again.

She emigrated to OZ, and he got his divorce

They got married last year ... and were really really happy

Today I got an email from him to say that she had Glioma, treatment had slowed its development, but she is now legally blind. She can still recognize voices and her speech and ability to communicate are not impaired

Prognosis ........ 3-6 months

She does not want to know the prognosis, so we are asked not to tell her or let it slip ........ but are welcome to email, phone or send snail mail

What the bloody hell does one say?

As some of you know, we had been planning on going down to OZ next year to attend a major botanical meeting in Melbourne, and the plan included going to see this couple and 2 other couples who livein the same city.

In the last few weeks we have realised that OH is no longer really interested in the program at the meeting, and were thinking of changing our plans ......... not least because most of our "travel" money is now spent going to see J and family. I was going to tell her about the change of plans in our Christmas letter.

Sorry Anne,

I don't really know much about the TV side of it but I'd have thought it would make sense to have everything under one roof.......

BT phone, broadband and TV.
Sky phone, broadband and TV.
Virgin phone, broadband and TV.

Do you have cable or adsl connection as cable seems to offer better value and is usually cheaper.

Google BT, Viirgin and Sky to see what they have on offer but if you want Sky TV, you are probably better trying to move it all to Sky.

Just back from a baptism, but it wasn't a baby......it was my sister, youngest of six.

Three of us were baptised as babies in the catholic church but my mum sent us to a protestant school so when the second batch of three came up for baptism, the priest declined so they were never done...........

I do understand that response but many years later, another protestant divorced sister married a catholic who was told he would not be welcome at the chapel if he went ahead with it...........I thought that was rather off.

They are still together twenty five years later.

By the way, I have nothing against catholics, dad is one as are all of my French relations.

Evelyn - lovely to have you back again

My new specs cost £325 and that was with a hefty discount as well - not NHS either as those glasses were awful.

Robert what a shame - I thought we might have passed by your shell.

I do love Beamish - we hope to visit and see the Christmas lights in a few weeks.

Thankfully not many to buy for these days and I only have my father-in-laws present left to get - all the others are in our spare bed room waiting to be wrapped.

What a shock on STC tonght - i really expected it to be Michelle this week not Jimmy - such a shame he was doing so well.

Last new Tricks this week as well.

Frank - I need some expert advice.

At the moment I have Sky TV - Bt Phone - Virgin broadband - have tried to look at the compare the market sites but more confused now than before.

We don't want to change the TV package - but were thinking Virgin was too expensive for just broadband.

Should we leave BT & move to Sky for broadband & phone or move our broadband to BT -

I just don't know which is best these days

Well will switch off now

Take care all

Hello Everyone,
Hope you are all well, we are both O K at present, I have had my flu jab and have a sore arm(Guess I am lucky to have an arm to have a pain in).
Have both been for eye tests Ron has new glasses and mine will soon be ready, scary prices at the opticians, my specs are over £400 and they dont even sing and dance, no NHS here for specs.
This year most of our relies will be getting money for Xmas as I really dont know what to buy for them, they have been warned.A few close relies and friends are easy to buy for so I shall enjoy shopping for them but of course I shall have the usual problem with Ron because as usual he doesnt want anything, hm hm.
Still no closer to tracing mothers roots, I really do now believe in the stork.
Not a nice day here today we have had heavy rain and a thunder and lightening storm, all is peaceful at the moment though.
Lots of love to everyone

Gloomy day today - loads to do at home & bills to pay

Hope tooth is ok Sylvia

Thanks for the info Robert - we may be up in Geordieland for a day or 2 in December if we can find the cash - will look out for your shell. Are you anywhere near Beamish?

Hi Cynthia

I have the same problems as you with my Grandchildren so I take the mothers shopping with me and let them pick out what they thinks they will like.
I have a set amount of money I spend on each of them .

The parents I tend to buy something for there houses.
Then they ask us what we want and at this stage of our lives I can't think of anything we need.

We may ask for gift cards at the local hardware ,Oh Loves going there.
He has so many power tools that he has not even used,he likes to pretend he can fix anything but between us he can't fix a lot, but he is a good wall and floor tiler.

Back to the cricket and we are infront for a change.
