Cynthia

Many thanks

Look forward to hearing from Fans.

Hate loose ends.

Another family mystery concerns a brother of my 2 x great grandfather. His wife went by two surnames.

Thomas Nicholls married Martha Pattrick/Theobald in 1836.

On the childrens' birth certificates, the mother's name was either Pattrick or Theobald depending on who registered the birth, Thomas or Martha. Apparently not uncommon in Bulmer Essex, but a mystery all the same.

And there is also Census confusion after Thomas dies.

The words which caught my eye.......Chocolate Buffet...............oooooh. yum.

I am totally lost with the rugby thing as it's something we are not into but I see the British team - or some of them - have been behaving disgracefully!

Have been hithering and thithering around as per usual. Got a good report from my dentist........and yes, if Frank were here, I would affirm that they are all my own!! Seems I clean them properly. Good.

Arthur, I will give Fans a nudge to take a look at this thread....she's a little marvel......when she tries ;-)

It's horribly damp and miserable here but still quite warm or, maybe I should say 'close'. I have been hearing rumours of snow in October but I really, really hope not.

Have just had a visitor which has limited my time on here so I had better have a quick browse around before bed.

Love to you all <3 Cx.

Nice to have you back Josie - sorry about the job front & your necessities being on hold - I know the feeling - I am sure things will sort themselves out for us both soon.

Sausage sizzle sounds good & good for the NZ people - i hate red tape & jobs worth people.

Good luck in the rugby.

John had another rejection letter on Saturday - so he is getting depressed & we had to have a new clutch in the driving school car (a def necessity as he can't work) that cost nearly £500 - an amount we certainly did not have to hand.

Arthur - i am sure there is a logic reason for the Census - you need help from our Fan's - Cynthia can you give her a shout after 10am - as we arn't allowed to disturb her before then.

Seems a very peaceful thread at the moment

will pop by later

Take care all :-) ;-) <3 <3

Hi Everyone,

Your little break away sounded absolutely wonderful Anne.

I love Travelling, staying in Hotels and dinning out,
sadly it all costs money
and I finished up with a Pauper not a Prince so can only dream of such luxuries.

Though I did have a special treat a couple of weeks ago I and 19 ladies from my Church had a wonderful Ladies night out at a CHOCOLATE BUFFET :-D :-D
It's held for a few weeks a year at one of our top hotels. All the Chocolate you can eat for NZ$29.95.
All these amazing creations, petite fours size including a chocolate Fountain and Hot Chili Chocolate you could drink out of demi tass cups, of course well laced with alcohol my favourite being a Bailey's Creme brulee.
The feast was pure 'eye candy' <3 <3

A wonderful night, the next day along with a chocolate hangover I came down with the Flu. Am fully recovered now.

Well it is nearly over, 7 Weeks of The Rugby World Cup, even if you do not like Rugby you can't not get caught up in the excitement.

We have had over 100,000 visitors from around the World descent on NZ over this period and as we only have a population of 4.5 Million people and 260, 000 people live here in Wellington.
The atmosphere has been exciting, the Country has been in Party mode.

Last night the Final match to be played in Wellington was held it was a quarter final between South Africa and Australia which was won by the Aussies. Much to our relief because South Africa where the World Champions.

There have been some interesting highlights over the last 7 weeks with Ireland beating Australia in one match with all the Kiwis cheering on the Irish a real indication of New Zealand's love for Australia.

Then there was the couple from South Africa who booked their Accommodation on Line at the Palace Hotel in Eastbourne, and duly arrived in Eastbourne, Wellington and could not figure out why the GPS in their Car could not locate the Hotel.
On seeking help at a local Chemist it became apparent that the Hotel they had booked into was in fact in Eastbourne YOU GUESSED IT ENGLAND :-D
The kind owner of the Chemist Shop gave them a bed for the night and locals shouted them dinner and drinks at the local Pub. Unfortunately the English were not so Hospitable and the Hotel in Eastbourne would not refund any of the 400 pounds they had paid.

The IRB The governing Body who run the World Cup are seen as the Bad Guys especially when they finned a Samoan player $10,000 for not wearing an official World Cup mouth guard, this was seen to be over the top nonsense
especially as the Island nations such as Tonga, Samoa and Fiji are poor Countries and it took much fund raising for them to be able to come to NZ and even then the Pacific Island Communities here had to assist them financially to stay here.
On hearing about the Fine a catering firm offered a 1000 Sausages to a local Radio Station who in turn ran what Kiwis do best a 'Sausage Sizzle' and with the generosity of number of Businesses plus the selling of the Sausages the $10,000 was raised.

Next weekend will be the Semi Finals and our team will play Aussie and the Welsh will take on France.

Have had no Joy so far in getting A new Job but am still picking up 12-16 hours a week of casual work at Muffin Break which is covering my Bills for the moment.
Though a pair of new Glasses which I need as I have broken the Frames which are now wired together and the Final stage of my Dental work which was to get my new front teeth for Christmas have had to be put on hold till next year.
But on the bright side my OH after smoking for the 45 years quit 8 weeks ago and has discovered he now has over $200 a month extra in his pocket so has been generous in helping me out when needed.
Time I went and had some lunch,
Catch you all later Josie
:-) :-) :-) <3 <3 <3

I have been researching other than my direct line and have found a curiosity on 1881 Census. Caroline Quick (nee Nicholls) is shown living with her children as Head of family, and William Quick 51, noted as 'Brother'. Her late husband was William Shakspear Quick who died in 1879.

Caroline had a half-brother, William, but he would have been 66 atthe time of the Census.

I hate loose ends and wonder if you have any thoughts on who William might be, as he clearly cannot be Caroline's brother.

Trying hard to get my garden sorted whilst dry weather lasts and before the forecast arctic winter arrives, so not spending much time on Family History.

Thought the Len Goodman story on 'Who Do You Think You Are' was so interesting and so sad. There were Sudbury Silk Weavers amongst the Nicholls family in the early 1800s - not found anyone in a workhouse yet, and hope i don't.

I agree with the comment on Evelyn's thread - better to add info even if it has been seen before - I do like you little Precis - but someone got a bit uppy when i said it was a wate of time just going to the LMA to get info FBG had got direct from the hospital. I won't do that again - i will leave well alone.

Well working this weekend (take it while I can) any little helps.

Have a good weekend in case i can't get on again

Sounds like you had a wonderful time all in all Anne but I have to say that those tiny portions wouldn't suit everyone.....when I see the amount that my son can eat, I am amazed. Wasn't your OH still hungry afterwards?

I am intrigued by Reece's Fernando the Fence man!!! Sounds very exotic Reece. Does he dance the flamenco when he's finished.... :-D

Sue, you never know, but Sylvia may be popping over for a shower at your place too............now that she can have showers again, she's getting quite giddy :-D :-D

I know what you mean about Evelyn's thread going round and round. A lot of the problem is that people aren't taking notice of what has already been done - that is why I keep posting the precis. I will have to update it when I can.

Even so, any activitiy on it is a good thing - it keeps it in people's minds and someone may just spot something that has been missed. I am waiting for the Goddard-Fenwick will to arrive any time...........all a'flutter I am :-D

We had some dreadful rain last night - it seemed to be blowing horizontally as the wind was so strong. Hope it calms down today.

Love to everyone.........still missing our Frank :-(

Morning all - 7am - chill in the air - autumn has arrived - again

Just for Reece

Square meal Venues & events show - London - Billingsgate

Fantastic venue - loads of room - mostly for venues to show people what they can offer for conferences and parties - very little food on offer - loads of champagne & sparkling wine- I prefer the Travel trade fair (lots of free food - tasty nibbles) - 4 floors of little booths all different companies - hotels & a few restaurants - the odd seminar - they had a couple of party tents outside & a hot dog stand - with very tasty sausages.

There was one stand for a nightclub doing nitrogen Mahitos (sorry about the spelling0 they made the cocktail as normal & then put it in this nitrogen compartment & it came out frozen in a few seconds - very strange & very strong.

We had a very nice lunch provided - a rare roast Beef sandwich, bottle of water, chrisps, chocky biscuites and a fruit salad (or for the veggies a couscous salad) - all in all it was very hard on the feet - wandering around all the time & keeping a smile on the face & telling eveyone we will use them in the future. I am now being bombarded with emails at work & post at home from the various venues.

Our Weekend away was fantastic

Lovely hotel for normal people - apart from the cost of the rooms, food & drink - very over priced - they had a lovely little dog at the hotel who you could take for a walk (if he wanted to go) - it was a 400 year old jacobean mansion house (think some of the furniture dated back from those days.

I would have liked a room in the main house - but they allocated the cottage to us - we wnt through the hotel & out the back door to the inner courtyard & he pointed to an Ivy covered wall - with a white door in it. Went over & inserted this large key in the door & this was our room.

There was a nice little hall way - then a little dressing room = then through this very old barn door & into the bedroom/sitting room - nice flat screen TV & DVD unit on an antique chest of drawers - with an antique sofa & chair (very hard) & antique wardrobe (door did not shut all the way) loads of room in the wardrode & loads of hangers.

Then we got to the antique bed - took up the whole end of the room - fantastic carved head board & king size - also very comfortable - back at the other end of the cottage - the other side of the dressing room & front door was a beautiful stained glass door - that led to the very large bathroom.

The walls were over 12 inches thick in this cottage - no-one near you or above - during the day you ahd a few people walking past but nothing at night - very peaceful.

We treated outselves to a cream tea in the lounge - overlooking the lily pond & lawns (£7.25 each) but it was our birthday. went back tot he room - unpacked & had a rest before dinner - went to the lounge & had drinks before dinner & were shown to the Fine Dining restaurant. this was our free meal (£42.50 each) - well the food was very nice

I had Ham Terrine - John had Beetroot Gravadlax, Orange & Tarragon Salad
Mains - John had Breast of Creedy Carver Duck with Braised Green Cabbage, a Raspberry and Lentil Jus
I had Braised Belly of Sandridge Farm Pork with Roasted Tenderloin,
Asian Spices and a Light Sherry Jus
Dessert - John had Vanilla Panna Cotta, Rhubarb Compote
I had White Chocolate & Lemon Cheesecake with a Citrus Compote

All served with a very nice red wine

All very nice & served the fine dining way (small portions - tiny veggies and loads of little spots of Jus around the plate - very decorative)

Will do the 2nd night when I am in tomorow if i can as too many people pottering about now

Pop back in again at lunch if i can

Take care all

I am always cheered up by this thread -

Popped in to Evelyn's thread - added a comment & wished I hadn't - people do seem to take offence very quickly. I though i was helping - but never mind - I was trying to save someone some time.

Its dry but windy and a bit chilly

I really enjoyed reading all the info on Evelyn's thread it took so long & I think some things are going round & round again.

Diane is certainly dificult to find - & i thought my father was hard work - that took two years - would have been a lot easier & quicker with the internet now - but probably not so much fun as spending all that time in the records office - humping around over sized books.

Well back to work - early morning tomorrow so may get a chance to do a quick rundown of the restaurant

Hi Everyone

Lovely sunny weather at the moment so we are making the most of it and getting all there gardens ready for summer.

My Roses are starting to bloom,I have had a good show of Daffodils over the winter months that gave us some colour and my flowering Peach is glorious at the moment.

I have just popped into Evelyn's thread,I must admit I find it all hard to follow but I am still looking around for anything that might fit .....not an easy task with so little information ,I really don't think Diane is her correct name otherwise something should have come up by now.

Anne keep your chin up ...we won't let you get depressed and you don't have time in your hectic life for such things anyway.

I might go and try read up a bit on Evelyns thread.

Friends of ours are having there bathroom worked on so there shower is out of order,guess where they are coming for showers tonight ?

Love to everyone .

Wonderful news, Sylvia. Well done you and enjoy that shower!

Robert - I am sorry - I didn't mean to make you depressed as well! I hope it is nice and warm inside your shell though. It is dull, cloudy and very windy here in my part of the South East today. Hopefully, this wind will blow some of the remaining chestnut tree leaves further than my garden and roof.

Anne, please don't get too depressed - something good will come up for you I feel sure. Glad you enjoyed your week away, too.

Phone call just now - have I recently had an accident? No, so did I know anyone who had, No! I'm not in the phone book so how do they get my number?

Another phone call - this time one I wanted - Fernando the fence repair man - is coming tomorrow morning.

~~~~~~~to you all and
Will try & do a synopsis if i can of my London Visit & the hotel etc - No time in my lunch hour & no early mornings at the moment either
I think i need a 2nd job as the OT is stopping (well slowing down now) - just don't know how the bills are going to be paid if it stops.
Now i am getting depressed again & dragging the thread with me - time for me to depart & get back to work
