Gwendolen became a nun I think wisechild. It's mentioned a few pages back. Nuns galore it seems!! Her brother William, was a missionary student.....so, quite a religious family.

What do you reckon the cat fancier did?
Can only assume she bred pedigree cats.
Wouldn´t have thought she would make much of a living fron that, much as I love them.
Perhaps she didn´t need to.

Do we know when Evelyn GF died? Might be worth getting her will, if she left one

Looking in 'phone books I found a P M Macleod living at 22 Terrapin Rd Tooting from 1927 to 1929.

Terrapin Rd , Dafforne Rd and Khartoum Rd are not that far apart.

They then come up at 435 Princess Gardens Ealing from 1930 to 1932 and then at 152 Princess Gardens in 1933.

I wondered if it was this one :

Name: Patric M Macleod
Age: 23
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1878
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Patrick M Macleod
Mother's Name: Jennet F Macleod
Gender: Male
Where born: Liverpool
Civil parish: Wandsworth
Ecclesiastical parish: St Mary Magdalene
County/Island: London
Registration district: Wandsworth
Sub-registration district: Wandsworth
ED, institution, or vessel: 43
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 155
Piece: 486
Folio: 170
Page Number: 26
Household Members:
Name Age
Patrick M Macleod 57 b Scotland
Jennet F Macleod 56 bScotland
Donald Macleod 25 b Liverpool
Patric M Macleod 23 b Liverpool
Jessie S Macleod 14 b Canada
Helen M Sampson 30 b India
Bridget A Odonnell 30 b Ireland

Father is Patrick McFarlane Macleod Presbytarian Minister in Upper Tooting ( died 1907)

Both parents married before. He seems to be Peter on first marriage record:

Marriages June 1871
Cochran  Marion Elizabeth    Woburn  3b 676
Macleod  Peter McFarlane    Woburn  3b 676

Then the second marriage:

Marriages Jun 1875   (>99%)
Macleod  Patrick McFarian    Birkenhead  8a 722
Macleod  Patrick McFarlan    Birkenhead  8a 722
Simpson  Janet Fullarton    Birkenhead  8a 722

Jessie Shannon Macleod was born in Canada. The family were in Canada at the time of the England 1881 and 1891 census, returning just in time for the 1901 census above. Jessie married 1906 Wandsworth to Sydney Bellamy Harman. She can be found in 1911 under the name Jean Shannon Harman living Amersham Bucks.

Helen M Simpson was the daughter of Jennet's first marriage. Born in India.
I think that in 1911 she is with step brother Donald and another Jessie but I got a bit muddled on the free search!

Can't find Patrick junior in 1911. He seems to have died in 1944:

Deaths Jun 1944   (>99%)
MacLeod  Patrick M  66  Brentford  3a 323

Did a bit of googling and found some family stories. There is a suggestion that Jessie was 'flighty' whatever that might mean! It's conceivable that she may have had a child before marrying Sydney.

http://frederickharman.tripod.com/id185.html

There is an article suggesting PFM had a daughter by his first marriage and that he came from Gourock ( so nowhere near Inverness or Stornaway )

http://web.uvic.ca/vv/student/st_andrews/mcleod.php

So there are connections with Canada, India & Tooting and with the church but nothing Military and seemingly not connected to the right area of Scotland which is why I put it aside initially.

Hi all

I had a look at that 1911 birth for Diana McLeod in Wick .She was born 19 dec .

Parents were John McLeod and Nellie Christie .

They married 1908 in Thurso 9th september .He was 24 a cooper she was 26 a domestic servant .His parents were John McLeod a mason His mother was Catherine McLeod ms McDonald

Her parents were LESLIE Christie a cooper and Dina Christie ms Hay

Red herring I think but unusual that her father has the christian name Leslie !!!!

Thanks for doing that Kathy. :-)

I didn't really think anything would come of it, but it interested me because I couldn't find a death or marriage for her. :-(

At least that's another one ruled out anyway!

That darned Diane is still hiding

wisechild

wisechild Report 30 Sep 2011 15:36

Can we be absolutely sure that Dianes father was called Robert MacLeod or could that be another figment of her imagination.
It seems odd that there is no trace of anyone of his description to be found anywhere even disregarding his job description
The only other possibility I can think of is that he is considerably older than we are assuming. She could have been the child of a second or even 3rd marriage.

Evelyn

Evelyn Report 30 Sep 2011 15:52

The only information I have re Mothers father is what she told me and what appears on her marriage cert, but she told so many fibs he could have been called anything.
My advice to youngsters today is ask your parents about their parents and grandparents and learn as much as you can before it is too late as in my case..

I agree Evelyn, but you can ask until you´re blue in the face & if they don´t tell the truth, you´re no better off.
Hope Ron´s feeling a bit brighter.

Hi Marion,
Yes thank you Ron is a lot brighter today, he slept well last night and has been eating all his food today, so fingers crossed and lets hope it lasts.
For sure lies dont help do they some of the ones mother used to tell were quite pointless, I think she just used to like the sound of her own voice.
Small in stature she was but had a lot to say for herself and I feel sure she had a good education and seemed to know a lot about any subject that was brought up.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 30 Sep 2011 16:40

That's the problem here.....we can't be sure of anything Diane said.....sigh.

Interesting about the Leslie bit Kathy - thank you for that. Will see what Fans thinks when she's stopped building garages or whatever it is she is up to.

I think that the fact Diane was insistent about the name Leslie must be of some importance in our search.......but why?????/

Glad to know Ron is brighter today Evelyn....keep your chin up!

Am hoping to send off for that will of EGF this weekend.

Perhaps Viv is buiding a cell block for naughty little Ishbel!!
Ron is having a walk around the garden so the exercise will be good for him, hope he doesnt spend the evening asleep in his chair, I would prefer him to sleep at night then I can get some rest as well.
Time to start cooking, I have been instructed that sir wants no more cream as he will be getting fat, he can dream, I have ways of disguising the cream, rice pudding is wonderful with added cream.and for sure there will be cream and butter in todays mash. ;-)
