As Susan mentions above, the Forces births, marriages & deaths were in separate registers. They were held at Myddelton Street in London but where were they moved to when that office closed? If they were not incorporated into 'freeBMD'/Ancestry records then it might be worth tracking them down. Diane could still be hiding in a store cupboard somewhere. GRO at Southport may know where they are. Good luck to all those helping Evelyn.

Hello Eileen, Diane wouldnt take up much room in a store cupboard she was only about 4ft 10 inches tall and weighed about 6st 8 lb, very petite.
As I have said chances are IF she was the daughter of a service man serving abroad maybe she was never registered.
She sure is a woman of mystery

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 7 Oct 2011 16:09

If Diane was reg abroad to Forces Personnel of the Scottish variety then IF she was reg under whatever name her birth would be found on ScotlandsPeople under" Services".
Nothing/zero/zilch/Nada has been found by searching SP and even have someone who was most helpful search the registers for her at Edinbrugh...Nowt of her to be seen...

FMP hold Births reg abroad to Forces personnel and citizens(M.I.Ls found in Latvia.!)and again nothing on there...
India Office/Familysearch/Ancestry/Fmp and SP all well and truly turned upside down and inside out.

If there was a birth reg of a Diane Leslie Macleod anytime between 1895 and 1911 then it certainly must be well hidden in that store cupboard with another I have searched hard and long for...My own Great grandfather (every possible birth cert for him under every spelling and yearish sent for across the country is now in my file along with one that I do believe is him as correct parents but not the Christian name he used from C 1878 on his Naval records )and also another of a friends greatgrandfather(similar story with Naval records holding a Christian name that does not wish to be found).......Any sightings of any of the above 3 please post details on here...Thank you...Fans... :-P

Wonder what dragged Fans away from her concrete???

If Diane's records are in a cupboard somewhere, I reckon the cupboard is made of invisible material.............. :-D

To think ladies that I actually worked in Somerset House for almost 8 years and had access to every register and I never bothered because a )I was at teenager and not interested and b )my family were all Scottish !!!! Little did I know that they crossed the border and some of them died in England

How I wish now I could go back in to those vaults !

Just a thought a few pages back I recorded families who had children with a mother Catherine and children Donald and Isabella inStornaway at the 1901 census . Anyone think it might be worth looking into further ????

Hi Kathy.......hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it?? I often wished I had listened more when my mum and grandma were talking about my grandma's father - he is my disappearing man!!!

The innocence of youth!

I'll bring your family query to Fans attention.........she is the one who can skim through these things and get her brain into gear at the same time. I can just find the right page and she's finished!!

Hi Everyone

I have done a lot of searching of Military records over the last few days with the name of Robert Macleod and variants of the that name, none of the service records in the Military have a child with the name of Diane Leslie Macleod I am sorry to say.

Either she was not Reg or that is not her correct name, sorry I have not read all of Evelyns thread but does Evelyn have her Death Reg is there anything on there that may shed light on her.

Not been much help sorry but I will keep trying from time to time ...you never know what records get entered on Ancestry it is updated all the time.

Suex :-S

You're quite right Jan........I'd forgotten that whilst you and I and the others were all up and about being busy, 'someone' was snoring her head off!! It's amazing how that sound travels y'know!

:-D :-D

Thanks for that Sue...... it's such a mystery. No clues on the death cert from what I can remember.

I am still waiting for EFG's will to arrive......where is my postlady when I want her!!!

My father H R J Roy registered Mothers death in July 1952, she died in Weymouth Dorset of Bowel Cancer. There was no will, really nothing to leave as we were bombed out several times in WW2 and lost photos and paperwork that most families treasure.
Once again thank you for your help
Evelyn :-)

During the last 2/3 weeks I have lost a stone in weight...The wonders of concrete mixing/laying ,cooking for all helpers and carrying heavy loads are to be applauded....But I am still Crackered...
No 2 D.I.L phoned to ask about a knitting pattern prob she had(Yes I knit too)just after I said I wanted no annoyances and she was not long on the phone I can tell you..!...Lucky we get on so well... :-D

Kathy ,I will back track to those 1901 census that you are asking about later this eve as I am now off to peel millions of "fallen"cooking apples that I was given to freeze down before they go off..
Methinks some will have to go inside a nice pastry coat as well though....

Back Later..

Oh and Cyn?????

FannyByGaslight Report 8 Oct 2011 20:09

Kathy posted.........Had a look at 1901 census and the only families I could find in Stornaway who had children Donald and Isabella ( no Ishbels ) with mother Catherine ( no Kate's ) were
Donald Stuart 6 mths f Donald
Donald Mackengie 14 yrs f Malcolm ( this is probably a wrong transcription and it should be MacKenzie )
Donald Macaulay 12 yrs f John

I wasted 6 credits on 1911 c checking Donald Stuart but it turned out to be the wrong family and I don't have any more credits .

Of course Donald or/and Ishbel could have been born after 1901 !!!!!

Cor...that took a while to find, hope you meant these Kathy?....Will get some credit and look at the others on 1911(if I can find them) but I may have to do that in the morn if my help does not turn up too early as Im so sorry but I am just so weary again after cooking apples for freezing, apple pies/Rhubarb pies/chicken pies and preparing everything for Sunday roast plus all my normal everyday stuff..........I want a holiday please.. :-(

And Evelyn??>>>>>>>>>>>>> :-P
