I followed up the Agnes Leslie living with the White family because she was born in Scotland.
The other one was born in England.
Scottish Agnes had been with the Whites for a long time.(Since 1881 at least)
Her parents appear to be George Leslie & Margaret Dow, married 24.1.1851 St Bartholemew the Great, London.
In 1851 George was in Stornoway, a seaman aged 27 living with his mother Susan aged 55 born England & 2 sisters, Eliza aged 20 & Barbara aged 14.
Father must have died pre 1841)
Still plodding on.

Hello Everyone, well today should be hospital and doctor free, even the nurse isnt calling today so I feel sort of normal for a change. Ron is quite bright and ate his breakfast porridge.
The thread is very busy at the moment but Diane still seems well hidden.
Once again let me say Thank You so much to all of you kind people that are helping to trace Dianes roots (she must have had some) though it is obvious she didnt want us to know about them, there must be a reason for this, just wish I could remember some little thing that would solve the riddle.
Lovely sunny day here in the island though it is quite cold.
Must remember to put the clock back tonight.it will be nice to have a lay in in the morning,
Much love to you all my friends

Hi Jan.
No, the image isn´t available on Ancestry, Just the index.
Something a bit odd there. Wouldn´t have thought the year would be mistranscribed.
After a bit more digging, have found what looks like Agnes´s brother & his wife in Wandsworth in 1901 with an 8 year old son Alfred.
George died in 1911 & his wife Georgina in 1910, leaving 18 year old Alfred on his own. Did Agnes move in with him?.
Off to do a bit more digging although there´s every chance it will be another dead end.

Have side tracked somewhat & gone back to the family I think were Agnes´s in Stornoway in 1841.
The person I think is her grandmother is Susannah Leslie nee Ash & her grandfather was George.
Her father was also George & her mother Margaret as mentioned before.
Her father´s youngest sister was Barbara Catherine Leslie, born Stornoway 9.2.1837.
Can´t find a marriage for Susannah & George & he must have died before official registration. She was English, but again, can´t track her down.
Going to look now to see if any of the siblings had a daughter Catherine or Kathleen.
What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon???

Re jansmith census above
Houghton Aina A is definitely not on the image. Although Agnes looks as though it has been spelt Aj and the nes is poor but then it is F Leslie. Transcript error reported.

Going demented here, but so far have found the following family of Leslies .
Alexander b abt 1818
wife Isabella Christina nee Murray b abt 1824
Their son Robert Murray Leslie was a consultant physician.
He married in 1920 Gwladys Olive Keith & died in 1921 (He was 54 & she was 26). He left a will with an estate of 3392.11.8d
He had a practice in Harley Street & home address of 56, Harley House, Regents Park. In 1901 his sister Frances Mary was living with him.
Alexander & Isabella lived at Wester Suddie Farm House Knockbain.
Alexander died 7.8.1881
In 1891 Isabella was living with Elizabeth & Jane Murray (probably her spinster sisters) at Flemington Farm House & Frances & Robert were with her.
So difficult, not being able to see the Scottish transcripts.
This is the only family of Leslies I have found on the island & it´s highly possible that they aren´t linked to Diane, but I wondered if she went to London to stay with Robert the doctor & that´s where she got the idea of being a nurse (& possibly her private income after he died)
Confusion reigns.

Sorry FBG - It is Agnes F Leslie on both the 1891 & 1911 in Brighton, as Stuart says wrongly transcribed as Houghton on the 1911 :-P
