Don't know Scotland but wondered if this is worth a look at
http://www.ceuig.com/?s=school
Some of the school photos have names with them,
I wondered if there is any one you can email on this site to put a message on there if its the right area?

As promised earlier - it may be of use

Evelyn - I saw something yesterday which may help - now where was it.
No lost it again. It was something about a programme on Radio 4 I think.
Where you can submit your question to a programme like WDYTYA and they look it over and see if they think it will make a good programme & they take up the challeng for you.

FOUND IT EVELYN

Radio 4 Tracing your roots. If they think you have an interesting problem they will submit it to a team of professional genealogists for you. I think its worth a try. They can only say no. You can contact the programme makers at

[email protected]

Its on at 4:30 on 31st August - no harm in giving it a go. Lay on the sob story - OAP needs to find out about her mother etc.

Go on girl give it a go before you leave on holiday - just copy and paste over your details and what you have.

Thanks for that Tabitha, how kind of Tracey to spend so much time trying to help me. So many folk have helped on this thread and sadly we are still at square one, oh if only people told the truth.
I still feel that the Macleods that Vivienne found are the right ones but I just dont know how to prove it, just wish I had a brain
Love to all

Hi Evelyn, got a few more questions you will be fed up with me soon. Where were you brought up Scoltland/England? and where did your mum and dad marry and meet etc? Just trying to picture things in my mind.

Ok so I have racked my brain and thought of a few different things and what you have said so far about Seaforth Highlanders etc all fits apart from the India bit. I have followed through a soldier who was in the Seaforth Highlanders just to see if things would tie up with what you have been told Evelyn. The soldier I followed was a Kenneth MacLeod just to see where he was in the years of his service. He was a Serjeant eventually and sometimes his records were known as McLeod sometimes MacLeod, some of his children were registered as McLeod on SP from Service returns but then I found thier deaths as MacLeod so we must remember this in future it could be either of these spellings. Kenneth also came back to Fort George, Inverness in 1909 after his service and then he relisted again. Kenneth's father also lived in Stornoway but Kenneth lived and signed up for army service from Glasgow. In a way I hoped it might link into your grandfathers family of Robert but have not found a connection yet. If anyone wants to read Kenneths service record for further ideas his service numbers on ancestry are 2765 & 7829.
