Lets give it a try - I will see if there is somewhere on the WDYTYA site to add info.

Keep up the good work

Thanks for that Tabitha lets hope you are right, It is difficult to trace someone that does not want to be traced and I feel that is the case here

Don't be so hard yourself - I think its very interseting

I never thought I would find my father - but I did - it took several years and several trips to London, but I did find him & thanks to ancestry/roots web I found out a lot more. I am now further on my dads side than my mum.

I never knew my father - i have a vaig idea that I did meet him & my paternal grandmother when I was 4 or 5 - before I started school. I know my mother & I went to a park I didn't know and met a strange man. In played while my mum talked to him & he wasn't allowed near me. I know she got upset. We met my paternal grandmother one day shopping - bit I was too young to reeally know what was happening.

I do remember one sunday riding my tricyle up a very long drive way (later recognised as Woodvale crematorium) and my mum checking the flowers, I was 7 and I remember asking her why - she said she wanted to make sure he was really gone this time. I never did ask why.

I wish now I had asked more about my father - but its too late now.

Have faith Evelyn - all will come right - I really believe it will.

God bless

Oh how I wish you would, but I doubt that they would be interested in the likes of me

I agree with Viv - we should write to WDYTYA on your behalf and get them to find her it would be a real challenge.

I concede??spelling right?defeat.

I think you should write to the makers of Who Do You Think You Are and challenge them to find her.
If they can spend all that money on people who could pay for it themselves,
then they could spare a bit for a poor pensioner..
Just dont mention the holiday home in France.!

That all sounds feasable Tracey, but how to prove it. I just dont know.
I still think the Macleods that Viv found in Tarbat hold the key

I wonder if Diane was taken on by the MacLeods and looked after as an adopted child. I find it very strange of a woman not to speak of her mother or her father and then further more not mentioning if she had any siblings. It makes you wonder if she was an only adopted child maybe the parents could not have any. We cannot find a birth of Diane and/or any school records so it makes you think maybe she was taken on as a child and then had her name changed and also the bit about her being born in India was thrown in by either Diane herself or she could of been told this by the adopted parents so that she could not find any birth certificate. All these maybe's lol.

Thanks again for your interest in my quest, Diane (my mother) Never ever mentioned her mother neither did she say when she came back from India, she didnt have much to say of her father either but I have always assumed that it was him and posibly her mother that she lived with at Fort George in Inverness, that is an army barracks where Seaforth Highlanders were stationed, maybe her mother died whist they were at Fort George, perhaps that was why she was sent to live with her Aunt Kate, who I really believe Viv has found but we cant prove it.
People from the Tarbat Discovery centre have been in touch with India and they have been told no records of either Diane or her father can be traced.
I wonder if her name was Diane Leslie Macleod or was she plain Jane Smith. Diane told lies about so many things on an almost daily basis, what was she trying to hide, she seems to have managed to hide whatever it was.
No I have not managed to trace any school records
Kind regards
Evelyn

Its no easy job this one is it Evelyn, but sometimes some leads just need to be followed through if only to rule them out. Its a shame we don't have any concrete evidence. I know you have said your Mother(Diane) never spoke of her Mother but did Diane ever give any indication of what age she was when her mother passed away, and did she ever mention if she had met her dad or when he died. I know Robert had seemingly died before Diane was married. What age did your mother say she was when she came back on the boat from India. You have said Diane told lies, on what scale did she do it, was she a compulsive liar or do you think she done it to cover up that she was illigitimate. Have many things running through my mind and one of them is that she was not born Diane MacLeod but I think we are all thinking that. Did you contact the other School Records place in Stornoway?

Hello Folks,
I wish I could help re Dianes private allowance, I have no idea where it came from, I only know of it through my Grandma Roy, she said that up until her marriage my mother received a private allowance that stopped when she married. I have no idea how it was paid, it always made me wonder if she was illeg. and that was the pay off?
As regards Diane telling lies YES she did often.I think thats why this is such a puzzle.
Viv I still think the Tarbat family are the ones, I dont know why, just a feeling in the water.
No one in the family ever met or spoke to any of Dianes family, Why? what was she hideing?
Thank you very much for all your help I do appreciate it
Evelyn
