of course he is perfectly correct
trust a man to be right for once!

FannyByGaslight Report 10 Mar 2009 23:59

dunno about coming here ,maybe a visa, from the british consulate,or she was covered by the army
but if she travelled abroad again after she would have needed one.
think on it

and thank heavens youve found the use of the reply button properly at last,
it makes life sooo much easier.

Evelyn

Evelyn Report 10 Mar 2009 22:54

Several years ago I applied for Roberts army records but was told there were none available as they had all been lost in a fire, I was told the same thing when I went to Fort George

Have you someone that would go to kew and try and find his service records?

also what victoria has found may lead somewhere.

As he was a Major the Regimental museum might have some information on him. Otherwise, his officers records may be available at the National Archives -not online though - you'd have to go there or get someone to go for you.

I've PMed Vivienne with a request for her presence!

Evelyn

Evelyn Report 10 Mar 2009 21:44

Sometime ago Vivienne found a child Macleod entering the country(London) from Bombay in 1919 aboard the ship Ormonde, I have been viewing this site and note there is a Mrs J Macleod and 4 Macleod children,I wonder if clever Vivienne is on the right track and how can we follow this up?

Evelyn

Evelyn Report 10 Mar 2009 12:08

My mother always insisted that her name was spelt MACLEOD, she said her father Robert was a Major in the Seaforth Highlanders, I dont even know if Diane had any siblings only know of cousins Donald and Ishbel.
My paternal Grandmother told me that until the time of her marriage my mother received a private allowance, why or from whom or where I have no idea, she also always said she was born in Delhi, the name Leslie has always puzzled me as it is spelt the boys way and knowing it to be a Scottish surname I wondered if it was her mothers maiden name, I have no idea what her mother was called, she never mentioned her,I really am confused

It writes in a little detail about Donald and Kate MacLeod
