I only want females of the surname Leslie or Macleod to find each and everyone on census or SP if poss to discount them...Thats why...

1925?
Why not?

If born in C 1906 she may have stayed on at school or been born a bit later? :-P

Make it 1920 if you like...

Did anyone send off about that Diane Unknown?

Cynthia

"What I would really like is a complete list of all female children that attended schools in Stornoway from 1901 to about 1925....But where do you get that from without leaving Wales?"

........................you don't want much do you Fans.....?????

Why would you want to go to 1925?

Do you know how many schools there are in Stornoway? I googled and found this list........don't know if they were all there 1901-25 though.

It seems as though the Nicholson is likely to be the most likely choice but, there is no record of a Diane Leslie MacLeod.......I checked that out earlier this year....Maybe I should get back to the nice man I was in contact with.??

I did earlier today and I think I looked at it before....It does not say Robert Macleod on that incoming passenger list...It say Major Macleod so how do we know his name is Robert and how to find out if it is,or what Regiment that person was in as all it says is Military.....I am not poo pooing the idea it may be Dianes father, but how does one prove it?Beyond my little skill that one is...

And if he really was a Major in the Seaforths surely Diane would have trumpeted it loud and far?....Unless he was her"natural"father of course and then she would not have wanted to let anyone ask tooooo many searching questions would she?

And if a mother had been mentioned then again questions may have been asked.
Surely she must have told her husband "Evelyns dad"SOMETHING to explain where she came from...Prob did and then swore him to secrecy under pain of some thing or another...

I am of the opinion that she was Illegit...Not born Diane and have no clue as to her real name...

What I would really like is a complete list of all female children that attended schools in Stornoway from 1901 to about 1925....But where do you get that from without leaving Wales?

Edits
Just to add that I have tried for that list of schoolgirls a few times and got nowhere...

Good afternoon each and everyone... :-D

I am trawling back through the pages and have so far found that the boat carrying Mrs MacLeod and 4 children was spotted a couple of years ago and FBG looked it up further. Nothing ever came of that at the time.

The names Murdo and Alexander MacLeod have appeared but I am still checking through to see if these are possibilities.

I don't recall seeing the Robert MacLeod Australia/India passenger list so will get FBG to call in.

Must feed the troops....back later......and thanks everyone. :-D

Ancestry incoming passenger list
Unfortunately, no christian names.

30 Apr 1919 Bombay to Plymouth
Mrs J Macleod aged 38 & 4 children
(Must have all been under 12 as that is the age when their individual details are shown) Diane would have been about 10.
If her father had died the army would have paid the family´s fares back to England & Mrs J would almost certainly have recieved a pension for herself & the children. Could that have been the source of the private income?

I´m getting hooked on this too.
Just been looking at the marriage entry on Ancestry & noticed that there are 2 more MacLeod entries within a couple of years & fairly close by. Could they be relatives do you think?

Maybe give or take a few years with Diane, but I know that up until 1952 when she died she was having her monthly periods.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 15 Aug 2011 11:06

I had a quick look at Heir Hunters this morning and thought of Diane.

A lady had died at supposedly the age of 54 when, in fact, she was actually 84. She had kidded people about her age for a long time but the truth was discovered by unearthin some wartime record. Long story but interesting!

Evelyn

Evelyn Report 15 Aug 2011 10:52

Here we are another day and Diane????? remains hidden.
Wish we knew the mystery or reason for her not wanting to be found.
Surely nothing is that bad

Jan, do you fancy doing it......? I'm okay with words but rubbi.....er.....not brill at research - 'cept parish records.

FBG may think she's not good with wording but, boy, can she talk!!

FannyByGaslight Report 14 Aug 2011 21:18

Cynthia or you going to do that then Jan?..I am not good with sending emails, its the wording that Im not good at....

Now phone calls I can and have done LOTS of and did manage to get the fact that she worked at Springfield Hospital but alas no record other than her name as a member of staff and the dates she worked there, plus merry h*** getting a will for a Robert Macleod after numerous calls to some Sheriff in Scotland, who was most helpful at the end just to get rid of me I think,as was the Head of Springfield Human Resourses but it was def not her father... :-D

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 14 Aug 2011 21:14

Hi Jan, I am now cross-eyed going through that link. I googled Gravir which is where 'Diane' is under and it's really interesting.....occupants of the various crofts but, for the life of me, I couldn't find a Diane. I did, however, find a Duncanina.......arghhh.

I will send them a message on Evelyn's behalf to see if they can shed any light on things.

The various Croft sites were really interesting with lots of photos etc. An absolute boon for anyone looking for connections up in that area.

Thanks again. Will obviously keep posting on here.

Please.....keep the ideas coming....

this hopefully opens the list of names and shows a "Diane unknown"!!

wonder if it might be worth sending them a message on the site to see if they have any idea about your family connection to the area

As well as insisting Leslie was spelled that way she insisted that she was Mac and not Mc Leod..
Oh how I wish we could trace her, I hate not knowing my roots.
F B G found all my Dads family for me, she is a gem.
You have all been so kind to me on this thread. Thank You

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 14 Aug 2011 18:55

Have checked both those sites Jan, but it's not easy when we really don't know the name we are searching for.........arrrghhhh. What did you think?

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 14 Aug 2011 18:43

I know that many Donaldina's, Dolina's, Dolinda's etc. have been looked at but nothing has hit the mark as yet.

I wouldn't have wanted to be called Donaldina either! Nor Hectorina or any of the other ina's apart from Georgina.

Jan, the Robert you posted died in 1948 - at a ripe old age! Diane states her father to be deceased when she married in 1929.

One of the main drawbacks of all this, is the fact that Diana seemed to enjoy telling fibs........which isn't at all helpful :-S

The one name she was slightly passionate about was Leslie. I wonder if that's where we should concentrate our search for a while?

Am just going to take a look at those links Jan.....thanks.

As for Gwendoline G-F, it does indeed look as though she was a nun as the Sisters of Charity are a religious order devoted to doing good works.

So far, it looks as though none of Christophine's daughters married so the line must have continued through her sons.

On we go............
