Cyns

I am prepared to fund the birth cert for Ida C C McLeod

coz ---

Robert McLeod was in Egypt when Ida was born

He was in the Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-Shire Buffs The Duke Of Albany's) - 72nd & 78th Foot --

·3 things Evelyn says on her opening post

1, Name of “Father• given --same --- except for one "C" being dropped --

2) Regiment same

3) And he lived in Stornoway

add to it

4) Robert McLeod has a sister Issabella M Leod

5) Born Egypt ----- changes to India --- but Oseas

perhaps Fans has already checked her out !!

sorry Cynthia - haven't looked at this thread before and haven't taken it all in yet and missed the reference to 1911 census - kinda gets you hooked doesn't it!

If she was sent to Aunt Kates and went to school in Stornaway, you would think she would be on the 1911 census somewhere. Unfortunately can't afford to trawl the census hoping her name will pop up!

Assume no-one really knows where she was born ...

Hi Choccy,

If you look at page 46, I have given a brief synopsis of what has/hasn't been done. The 1911 Scottish census is mentioned on page 41.

Diane gave the name Leslie as a name for one of her sons and it looks pretty certain that it had some special significance to her....but what?

I wondered about her being Diane too Renes.

I wonder if she may have been illegitimate, was brought up by the MacLeod's and given their name.

Thanks both - see....that Fan's ain't up yet......sheeeeesh.

Choccy Report 11 Aug 2011 12:45

has anyone looked on the 1911 census (Scotland) ?

assume they have ?

Renes

Renes Report 11 Aug 2011 12:39

Choccy

Oh I see --- so they are diff indices -- which explains the diff

Can you find her in 1911 --- or Robert Mcleod

I secretly wondered if this was Diane

I know year wrong- name wrong - place wrong - but

Choccy

Choccy Report 11 Aug 2011 12:27

The fact that Diane was insistent about the 'Leslie' part of her name - could this possibly be her mother's surname? I suspect this has already been pondered on.

Hi Irene

I didn't really figure it out - just assumed there would not be two Ida C C McLeods born in 1901, and one of the entries gave another christian name. The one I posted is an Army birth index, whereas the one you posted is a Regimental birth index - presumably military births are indexed this way?

Renes

Renes Report 11 Aug 2011 12:16

Choccy

I saw that -- it actually give 5 entries ---

MCLEOD, Ida C C
Mother's maiden name: Not available before 1966
Regiment: 72nd Foot
Place: Cairo
Country: Egypt
Year: 1901
Volume: 210
Page: 50
Record source: GRO Regimental Birth Indices (1761 to 1924)

this one has diff Volume Page

And I could not figure out if the Ida Colina ref page 463 belonged to which Volume/Page ---

how did you figure it please

Choccy

Choccy Report 11 Aug 2011 11:25

Cynthia Report 11 Aug 2011 10:38

Oh my! Thank you all for this info.

I can't recall seeing a Louisa C.C. Godddard before and, it is odd that there is an Ida C.C. MacLeod. (love the reference re Emily being a 'Cat Fancier')

It is obvious that the Goddard-Fenwicks were a very talented family and our Evelyn seems to have been named after at least 2 of them.

I am not as good as the rest of you at working census things out (I prefer parish records), so need to fetch Fans to see if anything in her records matches what we have here...

Where is she when you need her.....

Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaans!
