Diane told some whoppers in her time so dont discount anything, though that information was on the marriage cert, I have seen it, though no doubt the information would have been given by her so who knows. Neither do I know if Diane had any siblings though she never mentioned any.

Her Leslie spelt that way has always made me wonder if that was her mothers maiden name, though as she never mentioned her mother I will probably never know

Jan - RLR Macleod was a surgeon captain in 1895 - he might have been a major later - can't remember why I thought he was 'acting' colonel but I think I read it somewhere.

Going back to the Seaforth Highlanders ' Major' can be applied to Pipers in the regimental band so that might be worth considering.

On mothers marriage cert, it says Robert Macleod, Major Seaforth Highlanders, deceased. Her marriage was 1929. That Robert had sounded so hopeful, thats a shame but thank you all for your help

This one also appears to have died in 1943 so not the correct one if Diane's marriage certificate is accurate ( I think her father was deceased? )

He seems to stick to his initials R L R Macleod. There are several medal cards of his on ancestry. Think he was a surgeon & poss just acting colonel during the war.

Evelyn, if you google Colonel R L R Macleod he crops up a fair amount. In the British Medical journal of 1895 he is said to have gone to India. There may be an obituary somewhere - sorry run out of time for further looking - I should be wrapping presents ha ha!

Jan that sounds very interesting, I wonder what the initial L stands for (as Diane was Diane LESLIE Macleod), I wish I was clever like you, I just dont know how you search these things out.
Diane was born 1906 so this is a possibility isnt it?
I am getting quiet excited again now, I had begun to think this was a hopeless task but maybe just maybe who knows, thank you so much for your help.

The only seaforth one i can see on National Archives site, but you have to pay to download and there isn't usually much to find on them and it wouldn't give other names of family. It might give his army numbers

Gavin is the son of my youngest brother Robert, but thank you for that, you really are on the ball. All the knowledge that Gavin has got he got from me.
Diane remains a mystery

I noticed that there is a GR member named Gavin who has both a Diane MacLeod and a Robert MacLeod on his tree, Diane having been born in Scotland around the right time and Robert in 1886 wondered if he has been contacted by Evelyn?

I did get in touch with the Stornoway Gazzette and they were very helpful and published letters for me but there were never any replies, I also
e mailed the Nicholson institute but have never received a reply.

Mr Goddard-Fenwick is away at the moment but the lady of the house is going to ask him to call me when he has time.

At least I wasnt told where to get off ,well it must be strange getting a phone call asking if they can help with any info on Evelyn Goddard- Fenwick and Dianes friendship.

I have PMd Cynthia with a way to check all those births for free I hope,she is on the case I believe,so now we wait.
