And you understand this ... because ...?

If you have a source, why not give it?

Have you searched for confirmation at all the places that anybody here would search?

........ ?

Thought you were ordering the birth certificate. That's where the info will be.

Sallyann

Sallyann Report 11 Sep 2010 17:43

yes birth cert is ordered, but this is what I was told by a relative as john and sarah (pearman) have different children, thats why I need the birth cert to confirm

hi, everyone, I finally got the birth cert for the william saunders, I was looking for and his middle name is thomas, born 29th july 1840, fathers name john saunders, mothers name sarah saunders nee foster, lived at time of birth "the star and garter beer house, great berkhamstead, herts.
does anyone have anything on this john and sarah, not the john married to sarah pearman, many, many thanks to all, Sally

Nope, no one has anything. Unless some person who has done extensive research into this family happens by and lights on your thread. This seems unlikely to me, but you never know.

Have you searched at all the places that anyone else here would search at?

There's just nobody in the 1841 in Great Berkhamstead who looks like ...

Sallyann

Sallyann Report 28 Sep 2010 20:21

thanks anyway, its all ways worth a try, I will have to do foot work now,

Sallyann, we've never established what your connection to this William Thomas Saunders is, and how you came by info about him in the first place. Are you descended from him?

What can you tell us about him in later life, then? Marriage, census records ...? To see how he reports his place of birth, for instance.

I find this 1851 household interesting:

John Saunders 63 - farmer
Charlotte Saunders 55
John Saunders 21
Daniel Saunders 20
George K Saunders 18
Charlotte E Saunders 15
William L Saunders 12 - born St Michael, Hertfordshire, England
Henry Smith 19
Alfred Panter 16
Civil parish: St Albans St Michael
Registration district: St Albans

because there is no William with them in 1841 in the same place:

John Saunders 45
Charlotte Saunders 40
John Saunders 11
Daniel Saunders 10
Geo Henry Saunders 9
Charlotte Emg Saunders 5

... although he is likely William Lucas Saunders reg Q4 1838 St Albans ...

I just wonder, with the addess at birth being the pub, whether maybe his mother was employed there, and perhaps wasn't actually married to Mr Saunders.

The image clearly says Saunders for William, who is on the next page from Sarah Sanders. They seem to be lodging in the household of a Samuel Warner? and no occupation is stated for Sarah.

yes, william was born in the pub his father john is down as a servant, john is my GGG granfather, and there is a census of the family 1851, listed just under bunnage family, whom william married the daughter emma, my father always said that his family of saunders are not localish, although up till now they are all in and around herts/beds.

So I was wasting my time because you had all this info you didn't give. Oh well.

And I'm still dammed if I can find the family in 1851 ... probably not least because I don't know where they are. Bunnages just don't help.

... Well, actually, finding Emma Bunnage did help. Because this is who is on the same page:

Name: William Smucker
Age: 4
Estimated birth year: abt 1847
Relation: Son
Father's Name: John Saunders
Mother's Name: Sarah Saunders
Gender: Male
Where born: Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England

Civil parish: Luton
County/Island: Bedfordshire

John Saunders 29 - Bonnet Maker (quite a change in occupation)
Sarah Saun ders 37 - Straw Bonnet Maker
William Smucker 4
James Smucker 9
Hannah Sawada 7
John Saunders 5
Thomas Saunders 3
Sarah Launders 12

At least if one asks Ancestry.

Presumably you're not using Ancestry, or you would have mentioned that.

If you are, it would be wise to correct those various silly surnames, so that anyone else looking for William, like a descendant of his or anyone else who found it as impossible as I did, can find the household.

Also his date of birth, since the image says 11, not 4. I'm pretty sure that (even) I would never have found him ... different location (not Great Berkhamstead), different name, different age ...

Well, maybe I got the marriage right -- did you not find that at FreeBMD when you searched? If so, it will give fathers' names. You should be able to tell whether it's the right certificate, from John's occupation.
