I am looking for my nans dad named Sydney James Brown born 1909c he had a brother William and a step brother called Percy. He lived in Battersea London I do not know if this was where he was born. His wife was called Kathleen Field. They had 4 sons Terry, Peter, Roy and Leslie and 3 daughters my nan Barbara, jean and Pamela.

I know nothing about him, his wife or his parents I would love it if you could find any info. Thank you.


Sydneys dad is believed to have been a petty officer in the merchant navy.

Charles Brown 1870 found amongst these posts married to Sarah Beatrice Brown. He was a naval officer.

Thanks the marriage cert is deffinately right as kathleens middle name was Eliza so that fits well

As the year of birth has changed from 1870 to 1868 is this the same Charles Brown?

You will first need a copy of Kathleen Field's marriage certificate which hopefully will show her fathers name and her age. If her father is shown as John Thomas Field and Kathleen's age at marriage is appropriate then obtain a copy of the 1912 birth certificate which with any luck should prove that this is her birth family.

I think it likely as this marriage record gives the wife's name as Bennett which ties in with the mothers maiden name shown on the birth registration:

Also my nan told me of Kathleen's brothers Bert (Albert) and Leonard so looks like a match but she also told me of a sister called May.

I have posted more detail on original request. I would like to know more about Sydney's fathers routes. My nan said that she believes that along his side we may have some Spanish blood. I would like to check this. Thank you all in return.
