Find Ancestors

I have just started trying to find my family hstory, I have the birth certifiates of my grandad and nanny and the names of their parents, but no birth dates, so I have come to a dead end already!!

My grandads name was albert cook born in worcester in 1922 to Mary Ann Cook, Late Harris, formerly Lallay, fathers name Albert Cook also.

My nan is Rose Cook, formerly Watts, born to Phoebe & Harold in 1927 in Birmingham.

I am wondering if anyone can help? Thanks

You need to look for the marriages of both sets of parents...............

Do you know Phoebe's maiden name?

You will find the following site very useful.

It's a free site and firly easy to navigate about.

If you enter the names of your grandparents, and select the marriage option it should give you the date they married and the area.

People tended to marry where they were born....(altho there are exceptions to this!) So this would be your next step.

Then you would need to order the marriage cert, this will give you your GGgrandfathers names, and hopefully you should be able to find them on the census.

look for a marriage for Albert Cook to Mary Ann Harris first and see how you get on

Thanks for the quick replies, I guess its not as easy as i first thought, but I am determined!!

I know the date my grandparents married, I have their birth certificate here so have date etc, therefore have both of their fathers names. But I dont have their fathers birth dates or where they 'originated' from.

Phoebes parents were Harold Watts & Phoebe Watts (Who would obviously have been formerly known as something else!)

She isnt appearing anywhere!!

His mothers maiden name was Lallay, but he wouldnt of ever been known as a lallay?

The March indicates the birth was registered in the months of jan, feb, mar..... following year registrations often happen with late year births...

I bet Rose was registered in early Jan 1928 !

Unfortunatly I only have the small birth certificate which gives no information on parents, i cold buy the bigger one but as I am only on the next generation I was hoping to last a bit longer doing handy research!!

The only reason I know roses fathers name, is because it is on her marriage certificate to my grandad!

So we're looking for a Watts/Gough pairing and a Cook/Lalley pairing....
