Hi there could someone please help me Im trying to find anyone who may be searching for the same people as me or who are from the same family line as me,as Im having such a hard time finding any information on this family past my great grandfather. The name is Thomas Day born in 1883 in NSW Australia however his birth is not recorded he married twice firstly to a Caroline Troth (who was married first to a James Buckman) they had two daughters together then Thomas went on to marry a Mary Andrews. Thomas Days parents are from Ireland or Wales and his parents names are James Richard ODay brn 1857 and Elizabeth Kershaw brn 1853. James ODay dropped the O from ODay when he came out to Australia. Though it is possible the name may have been first originally been spelt ODea but thats as far as I have been able to get. Please can anyone help me?
or if anyone is on the same family Line as Caroline troth known as Gussie brn 1875 Glenfell NSW Australia.
Regards
Karlina

It would help if you could add the word 'Australia' to your heading - this will catch the eye of members who have access to Australian records.

Hi Karlina

My brother is in touch with an ODay family in Scotts Creek near Adelaide - they are connected to our family through William Rowe Hill, the founder of that town. I am not sure of the spelling though - I have only heard the name spoken. I will email him and find out. May be a few days before I get back to you.

Hi Karlina

I have just heard back from my brother. The family he knows is spelt
O'Dea so may not be connected to yours( although different branches of the same family did sometimes end up with different spellings). If you think they are in the right area for your family, you could try the phone book for Scotts Creek. I would prefer not to give direct contact details, as they had had a serious illness in the family last I heard.

Sorry not to able to be more helpful!

Copy of answer to PM:

Hello Karlina

I am afraid I don't have any contact details for them - it's my brother who has had all the contact, and he has just left for a holiday in Austria. I will certainly ask him when he comes back.

In the meantime, I think he made contact with them through Ancestry, so if you're a member (I'm not any more), you may be able to find them on there. The family member of ours that he would have contacted them about was Walter Rowe Hill, so you could try looking him up.

I will copy this answer to your PM onto the thread. In case you're not a member of Ancestry, some kind soul may look him up for you. Let me know if you do make contact, otherwise I will be in touch on my brother's return.

Chris

HI Karlina

Just trying to get my head around some fo the dates

you say that Caroline Troth was born in 1853, that makes her 35 year older than her husband Thomas?????

Caroline Troth married James Buckman 1890 Grenfall

Thomas Day married Caroline Buckman 1911 Woollarhra

have you got the marriage certificates to back up your findings?

Vicci

Vicci Report 7 Jul 2010 22:30

Hi Victoria,
Sorry the date I entred was wrong she was brn either 1872 or in 1875 in Grenfell NSW Australia she was 8 yrs older then her husband Thomas Day according to there marriage certificate which means she is either lying about her age to be brn in 1872 or was actually brn in 1875 to be 8 yrs older. Sorry I was looking at the wrong info and put up her aunts.

Caroline Troth married James Buckman but am unsure if there marriage date is correct.

Thomas Day and Caroline Troth did marry in Woollahra NSW in 1910 and I do have there marriage certificate for them.

Im trying to find any information past Thomas Day and any on Thomas Days and Crolines children I know they had 2 one named Dorothy and am unsure on the second name if anyone can please help i'd be very greatful.

Marriage of Thomas to Caroline

3597/1911 DAY THOMAS BUCKMAN CAROLINE A WOOLLAHRA

Marriage of Thomas to Mary

11948/1925 DAY THOMAS J ANDREWS MARY TAMWORTH

Marriage of Caroline to James Buckman

3894/1890 BUCKMAN JAMES J TROTH CAROLINE A E GRENFELL

might be worth getting a copy of this marriage and comparing it to the one with Thomas it might surprise you there may be some differences in age and it could possibly give you more information on Carolines birth.

It looks like there may be two Caroline & James Buckman families but I could not find any other James Buckman to a Caroline

there is a Caroline A E and James J Buckman and Caroline A and James J Buckman listed under births there are 9 children listed for these two they could possibly be all the same family??

15265/1891 BUCKMAN MARY G JAMES J CAROLINE A GRENFELL

15608/1892 BUCKMAN EMILY E JAMES J CAROLINE A E GRENFELL
14982/1894 BUCKMAN HENRY J JAMES J CAROLINE A E GRENFELL
12788/1896 BUCKMAN WILLIAM J JAMES J CAROLINE A E GRENFELL
21589/1898 BUCKMAN MARGARET M JAMES J CAROLINE A E GRENFELL
22349/1900 BUCKMAN ELIZABETH M JAMES J CAROLINE A E GRENFELL
32039/1901 BUCKMAN DAVID J JAMES J CAROLINE A E GRENFELL

4035/1904 BUCKMAN ALFRED V JAMES J CAROLINE A LEICHHARDT

5851/1906 BUCKMAN BEATRICE JAMES J CAROLINE A NARRABRI

There are two deaths recorder for the above children but it doesn't make it any clearer

7345/1958 BUCKMAN HENRY JOSEPH P JAMES CAROLINE GUNNEDAH

18031/1920 BUCKMAN BEATRICE JAMES J CAROLINE A NARRABRI

Death for James J Buckman
2374/1910 BUCKMAN JAMES J JAMES MARY NARRABRI

This is possibly Carolines Birth

13020/1875 TROTH UNNAMED WILLIAM MARY INVERELL

and possibly her Death
3029/1922 DAY CAROLINE A WILLIAM MARY NARRABRI

If you have a copy of Thomas & Carolines marrriage it should give you her fathers name, hopefully it is William.

Death of Thomas Day
25277/1955 DAY THOMAS JAMES JAMES RICHARD ELIZABETH COONABARABRAN

How sure are you of his parents being James J Day/O'Day/O'Dea and Elizabeth Kershaw if you don't have a birth certificate for him - all births registered in NSW are on file. The information on his death is only what the informant knew not necessarily correct.

There is these two births
11623/1883 DAY THOMAS WILLIAM ELIZABETH HAY (no father listed)

3933/1888 DAY THOMAS JAMES MARGARET BALMAIN

I cant find any Thomas James Day b1880-1890 in NSW

Could you possibly post details from the marriage certificate you have.

Hi Anastasia,
On the marriage certificate I have for Thomas Day and Caroline Buckman (Troth) is says they were married on the 21st December 1910 at 22 Grafton St Woollahra NSW Australia. Thomas is listed as a farmer and Caroline listed as Domestic Duties and usual place of residence was Narrabri NSW Australia.
Thomas was a Bachelor when he married Caroline abd Caroline was a widow after her first husband James Buckman died from being shot, they did have 9 children together.
The marriage certificate states Thomas Day's parents as James Day and Elizabeth Kershaw and Carolines parents as William Troth and Mary Huckel both families were farmers.
The wedding was done in the presence of William Harris an Millie Buckman.
Thomas Days parents as far as I know and anyone in my family knew are James Day and Elizabeth Kershaw and its whats on both of Thomas marriage certificates, however I do Know at the O from O"Day was dropped when james came out to Australia but its not known when they came out.
Athol James Day (he had 2 children Jimmy and Kerry but thats all i know about them) is my mums auncle and he also had a sister named Hilda May Day who was my grandmother,
Hope this is of some more help.
Regards
