I am trying to discover the date of immigration and exact place of origin of Claus Henrich Dittmer, born c.1828 in Hanover, Germany. He worked as a stoker in a sugar refinery in London and married Miriam Laycock in 1854. His father's name was George, a farmer from Hannover.

Thank you Jane for this wealth of data on Dittmers from Hannover. I was intrigued by the Shipping certificate entry for Claus HInrich Dittmer. However, his given age does not correspond with that entered in the 1871 and 1881 censuses. The other Claus HEnrich, b. 28/4/1824 would be a bit closer to the 1827/8 dates that figure in the census returns, but is still at least 3 years out.
My Claus Henrich Dittmer married Miriam Laycock in Dec 1852. His father was given as George (so could be a Juergen), a farmer from Germany. Can you help me narrow down your list? Regards, Wade.
