Find Ancestors

John Eckley (b Dumfries1818) appears on 1881 census with wife Mary and Granddaughter Margaret McLuskie age 11 at 76 Lees Street ,Openshaw Manchester.

on 1891 he is still there with John Johnson, Margaret Johnson ,who are described as grandson and granddaughter, although I think it is still Margaret but with husband and son Albert Johnson (great grandson)

There is a marriage between a John Johnson and Margaret Graham McLuchie in Chorlton 1888 and Margaret seems to have been born in Levenshulme in 1870.

Could anyone clever please help me to find Margaret's parents so that I can make the link between the generations.

You might have to tell your friend to buy the birth certificate of Margaret which should give both parents

The marriage certificate should also give her fathers name and occupation

yes I did say that we would have to buy some , frustrating though knowing the grandfathers name is Eckley you would have thought if the marriage was in England we would have found it.

don't think the census record will be right one, there is a big difference between a 3 yr old and a baby.?

The marriage certificate of Archibald and Sarah Jane (available online from Scotlandspeople) will give the names of their parents, including mothers' maiden surnames.

They are not very easy to find!
