Don't see how they could be twins. On the 91 census Herbert was born Aldershot, Sussex and Opetka born Halifax, Yorkshire.

Ethel

Ethel Report 30 Jul 2009 18:27

Hi Richard.
from the details in the 1891 census I would think that they were probably step siblings.
1891 reads
Herbert Harte. 21.
Mary A Eaves. Mother. Widow. 67
??Opertika? Eaves. 21.

They were living in Marylebone.London., I can find an entry on 1881 census for a family that maybe connects but you need the birth certificate for Herbert to sort it out.

Living Marylebone.

Thomas Ormanby??? 42
Mary A " 41or47??
Annie Harte. 19
Blanche F Harte. 16.
Mary G? Harte 15
Harry E Harte. 13.
Herbert Harte. 11
Florence A Harte 9
Percy C? Harte. 7.

I dont think the name Opertika is correct. The writing on the census sheet is very poor.

Birth of a Herbert Harte. 1869 July/Sept. Qtr. reg in Marylebone. vol 1a 564. Hope this helps. Ethel.
