Hiya.

I am trying to find the parents and siblings if any of George Langridge Birth abt 1853 in Middlesborough, London, England.

He married Mary Butler in 1878 in Sevenoaks and they had 6 children.

I have him living at 7 Kitchen Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England in 1881 and in 1891 in 29 Blundell Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England.

I can't find anything earlier than his marriage in 1853 but ancestry is bringing up hints that I can't tell if correct as they keep saying William George Langridge not George Langridge.

I do have a tree on ancestry but it is private as it has living people and recent photos on (user name ruthrichards1973)

Can anyone help please? Thanks for reading this!

Hi Ruth,
Are you certain of birthplace for George Langridge? Middlesborough is a long way from London.

Ruth

Ruth Report 3 Feb 2011 21:01

Hi Perchino

I think so. I found the family on the 1881 and 1891 cencus.

On the 1881 it says he was born in Farnborough, Kent, England occupation mariner
in 1891 it says Middlesborough, London, England. Occupation sailor at sea

his wife was from Liverpool

I would suggest that your best course of action would be to purchase a copy of his 1878 marriage certificate. Hopefully that will provide some details of his father which might assist in locating your man on the earlier census records.

cant afford it right now, like most people finding this an expensive hobby but loving it though.

I paid for ancestry and hoped to get a bit further but I always seem to struggle, need to rread a bit more about how to deal with these brick walls I guess!

I do appreciate the help though so thanks for the replies.

same address as 1891
See this is the sort of thing I need to know so you've given me a new way to look.
why on earth didn't I search by address! Thanks Maureen.

Langridge was always spelt in wierd and wonderful ways!

Perchino

Perchino Report 3 Feb 2011 21:31

Hello Ruth,
Wife shown in your posting was Mary Butler. Was he married twice as Maureen's posting shows wife as Annie?

Ruth

Ruth Report 3 Feb 2011 21:31

somethings not right here.

His son George was married in 1900 to Rose Ann Dagnall so he wouldn't show as single on the 1901 cencus.

where have I gone wrong? going for another look...

Ruth

Ruth Report 3 Feb 2011 21:32

in 1891, wife was showing as Mary so maybe he had married again before 1901 but it doesn't match what I have for his son.

I now ma wondering if I've made a boob with the 1891 cencus

I guess you're looking at these two?

The 1901 confused me too!

Just wondering if he's already hooked up with his wife-to-be:

hi Ozibird

The facts I know are that George Langridge married Rose Ann Dagnall and that his father was also called George.

I knew he lived in Liverpool all his life and lived at 1 Bruce Street, Liverpool, with his children.

I found this George with his family and from looking at record searches against d.o.b and where born only came up with one possible mothers maiden name Butler where is when I found al the other results from detailed searches

Ruth Report 3 Feb 2011 21:49

Ruth

Ruth Report 3 Feb 2011 21:51

ahhh a possible breakthrough.
the address you mention in the 1911 cencus is used by living family members at a much later date.
