Hi Ann, I've not heard of those places. My great aunty(?) Ethel lived in or near Helsby near Warrington (see original post), all her life as far as I know. I believe she probably died sometime during the 1970's maybe even the early 1980's.

Hi Tracey,

Doh! Helsby I meant, there is a Lynton House for sale in Elton, as of yesterday there was no photograph at the agents....Elton is 2 miles from Helsby......so just wondered was it your aunts house.

I dont know if it (Lynton House, WA6 9BD) was hers (years ago) or not.
It was the address she'd put on her letters to my late mother. As there was no door number I had assumed that it was perhaps a retirement home or sheltered accomodation or something?
I'm hoping that it might be possible that I can use that address to seach in the Electoral Register for c.1975(?) to see if I can find her & her surname???

**Ann** Report 14 Oct 2009 21:27

You may be right Tracey, it is a six bedroom "cottage" 3 storeys. It may have well been a retirement home of some sorts.

There is a photo now on Property Finder, Swetenams are selling it, they may have the history should you find out this was Ethels living quarters

hi ann, (last message for tonite...bedtime, lol)
I had a look at that property and am fairly certain its not the one i'm looking for RE: Ethel. However, It did give me an idea.....i found the website for the chester local newspaper & emailed them asking if anyone could give me any info on Lynton House, Sandy Lane, Helsby. It's a long shot but worth a try, lol. Meanwhile, I shall await delivery of my certificates.

Am I imagining things, or did I put a fair bit of time and effort into this same question in a separate thread that I can't find now?

Tracey

Tracey Report 15 Oct 2009 13:23

Janey.... I often find that when I come back to look at my "Threads" - I click on it & it tells me that I have no threads!!??!!
Then later, as now....I DO have threads, lol.
I find it all a little bit puzzling, lol.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Oct 2009 15:10

Huh. I have never had that happen, not once.

So - was there a previous thread then?

Tracey

Tracey Report 16 Oct 2009 15:44

I have been trying all morning to "retrieve" my threads on here, only for it to keep telling me that there arn't any!!
I now have the marriage cert of my nan MAGGIE (Annie Margaret Lawton) LAWSON + George Thomas Joy. They wed in a registry office on 27 April 1913 - she'd have been about 6 months pregnant @ that time. Her father's name & occupation are almost identical as on her second marriage cert (to my granddad in 1914) except for the fact of 1 letter change in their surname (lawSon-lawTon). This seems to confirm bigamy, as I cannot see that they could possibly have divorced in the space of a year (even if they could've afforded it).
Next step - await the arrival of the birth cert for Maggie Lawson!

Tracey, I really am curious, so I'll ask a third time: did you have a previous thread about Ethel?

Janey...I did have a previous question (thread??) on here about ethel.....which was deleted as this one is more detailed etc. But, as I said b4, even I cant always get at it, coz it seems to vanish......i click on "trying to find" then click on "My Threads" & it (often) comes back as "You have no threads" !! But.....I have...coz I'm on it now! lol.....Oh well!! lol

JaneyCanuck Report 16 Oct 2009 17:41

Okay, so there's the answer. A previous thread, on which I spent a lot of time, as I recall. Deleted - that would be BY YOU. A new thread started, contrary to the rules which allow for ONE post per topic, in which anyone reading has no idea that there was a previous thread and has no opportunity to see the info posted there.

If I want the work I do on these boards deleted, I'll let you know. And I won't be contributing to threads posted by people known to delete what I spend time on.

Please read the rules.

lolol

Tracey Report 16 Oct 2009 18:01

The only reason the "original" post/question/thread thingy was deleted was due to the fact that, as I keep telling you.....often times I have come back on here to read whats on it only to be told that "You have no threads" ..so, believing that the "original" question had been got rid of by those in charge (for whatever reason) I tried agin with a more detailed question. It a while later that the original question reappeared next to my new one...therefore I tried to delete the old one (which had drifted away from my basic question anyway, as I recall.) It doesn't say anything in the "rules" that a person cannot delete their own post.

"Before posting, please read the guidelines for message board use."

"Don't submit the same – or similar – material more than once."

I have never before heard these reports of disappearing "my threads" links. Perhaps you are inadvertently clicking on "my bookmarks". Perhaps you log in under a different account. I don't know. As I say, I have never heard of such a thing.

You tried again -- without breathing a word about the previous thread and the info in it. Enough said. Really.

Btw, if you check your inbox, you will find the message from me asking you to return to your thread, and explaining how, so that you could read the information I had posted in it:

YES janey I HAVE read the rules! thank you. And, there are NO guidelines anywhere to advise new users such as me on how to use the boards & manage the postings/threads, or what to do if you want to leave the boards, or any other basic info.
Lucky you having such problem free usage of the internet.
I am not stupid, I have NO other "account" & do NOT click on bookmarks by mistake of "My Threads". I cannot explain why I am unable to see these postings as and when I want...I just know that today for example, I looked on here at about lunchtime.....using the same clicking method as always...but no threads......tonight....threads. Maybe they're only available when there's an update..I dont know. I DO know that after all this aggro I certainly WONT be using them again!!! So, anyone who wants to know the outcome of my family stuff......sorry......I wont be back to this "Thread"
Oh, and please tell me why there is a "delete" button on my posts?

Gee

Gee Report 16 Oct 2009 18:53

Tracey

I cant explain why your threads dont 'show'. A guess might be that it takes time to download if you have a slow internet connection?

For example my broadband is advertised at 8MGs but when I ran a test the other day..it's running at 3MGs!

Keep on using the boards we just want to help

Final Update - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Great Aunt Ethel has been proved to be my nans little sister. Found that Ethel didnt remain a spinster as my family had thought, but married Harry Gallimore & had 8 kids, & lived in their family home LYNTON HOUSE, Sandy Lane for many years.
Nans older sister Mary married Enoch Dutton & had 6 kids (I've still got a lot of searching to do there). Incidentally, my nan had 11 kids in total.....!
Plus, thanks to many kind people.....it was also found that nan had a step-brother too....John Albert Walker Lawson, he married Florence May Bradburn...& I believe they had 1 daughter...Ethel...who appears to have died at just a few months old.
Most of the names that are cropping up in these searches now, I am able to match to names of mourners on the Obit newspaper clipping for WGC (bob) Joy in 1975.
