Looking for the birth of Ethel Violet Lingwood sometime after 1885. She got married in1904 and I have cross referenced the details so I know that is her correct name. Her parents married in December 1885 (in Staines, Middlesex) and I have found all her other sisters. I know she exists but just cannot find her birth details. I even looked prior to her parents' marriage in1885 (well, you never know!) but couldn't find her.

Her birth would probably have been registered in either Staines (Registration District Windsor at that time) or Edmonton. Two of her sisters were registered in Windsor but the others in Edmonton.

I have looked on BMD but cannot find her.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Pam

Where would you like us to look it up, if it's not at FreeBMD? ;)

Maybe if you told us her parents' names ... the instructions do say to give *all* the info you have ... married in 1904, she might well have been born before th emarriage under the mother's surname, for example.

How did you rule out the one jax posted (before I got a chance ;) )?

It seems to fit in all respects.

She may well have adopted a middle name as an adult! In the early 1900s, a lot of women did adjust their names to what they thought was something more modern.

Ah well! right family, wrong birth then, Mike -- but I was still right, wasn't I? Heh heh.

Thanks everyone especially Mike who has hit the nail on the head! Her mother was Susan Nixon from Staines who married Charles Henry Lingwood in December 1885. I presume that as her surname is Nixon, the father's name wasn't stated on the birth certificate. Thanks again.

Sorry Lindsey but you have the wrong family. Susan Nixon married Charles Henry Lingwood not Charles William. Thanks anyway

Jax

Do you have an address for the family in1891? You have also just confirmed some research I was doing working backwards from 1911 census. 10 children are recorded as being born: 6 living, 4 died. I have been painstakingly cross referencing Lingwood births and deaths to try to find those children who died. Lily I. (for Isabella) was one possibility. You have now confirmed that for me as she is on your list in 1891. Thank you. Pam

It's called teamwork, Pamela .................... you didn't give us the necessary information about the parents' marriage, so I went and found it ...................... Mike matched a birth to that information before I had a chance to come at it from the other end and search for an Ethel Violet birth that matched up with one of the possible brides ..................

Had you just given us the mother's name to start with .......... ! or searched for the birth under that surname. You'll know for next time now.
