PricklyHolly Report 25 May 2010 18:25

Hello, for the second time today!
I have moved on to Arthur's sister, Ada Littlechild. According to the 1901 Census, she was also born in Wandsworth London in 1889 but i dont seem to be able to find a birth entry for her.
(Parents Albert James Littlechild 1853 Duxford Cambridgeshire and
Rosa Elizabeth Jones 1856 Egham London)
I looked for the 1891 Census to check Ada's place of birth but there does not seem to be one for this family.
Would appreciate some help again please... thankyou in advance... Sue.

Hello Julie, aahhhhh i see!!! I didnt notice that at first glance but i suppose it was mistranscribed in the 1901. Thankyou all for sorting it all out for me. As always, your time is very much appreciated. Sue, soon to be owner of Scroggie!! xx

Julie Report 25 May 2010 19:31

Hi Susan

it does look like Ada on the census image...but if Albert had an accent he might have been misheard when he said Ida

Funny really, all this time and effort spent over the misspelling of one letter! Thankyou Julie... Sue x

dont know if you saw the original census for 1901 but it does say Ada then maybe the enumerator miss heard easy mistake

jax

scroggie the moggie would be good

jax

jax Report 25 May 2010 19:57

they dont normally have an accent in Duxford but maybe they did then....to a London accent I mean

Chris in Sussex

Chris in Sussex Report 25 May 2010 20:13

It is very unlikely that the Enumerator completed the household schedule.

More likely, if the head of house was illiterate, it was completed by a literate son/daughter, neighbour or local busy body!

Enumerators only completed a schedule as a last resort.
