The 1901 census that Andrew posted gives the occupation as cartman.

Can't begin to imagine why you don't know who he married...........if he is your direct ancestor, you must have worked backwards to get to him.

How do you know his full name?

If you buy his marriage cert. it will tell you his fathers name and occupation and hers.

Are now I have it!!!!!!!!

The father of William Mills is James Mills a Farmer and the father of Mary Ann Withy is William Withy an Engineer.

The witnesses are William Withy who signed his name and Virtue Withy who made her mark. Virtue was probably Mary's mother which is why you get the two names in the children.

Mary Ann also made her mark X but William Mills signed his name.

William is down as a Wheelright which would have been a Cartman.
