Oops we are crossing in the post.

If Elizabeth Turner Chapple's mother was Frances Partridge christened 1809 then she is the daughter of Eliza Partridge's uncle Malachi Partridge and his wife Rebecca Bools who married in 1806.

Frances Partridge was herself the daughter of Jacob Partridge and Elizabeth Bools who married in 1811.

I don't think we can tell from what we have whether Elizabeth Turner Chapple's mother was Frances Partridge or Fanny Partridge of the previous generation. Let us check a little more ...

Can't find births for Elizabeth Bools and Rebecca Bools in the IGI.

Here are Frances (Partridge) and Robert Turner in 1841

Name: Frances Turner
Age: 45
Estimated birth year: abt 1796
Gender: Female
Where born: Devon, England

Civil parish: Seaton
Hundred: Colyton
County/Island: Devon

Robert Turner 55
Frances Turner 45

Here is Francis in 1851 with a more accurate birthdate

Name: Frances Turner
Age: 58
Estimated birth year: abt 1793
Relation: Wife
Spouse's name: Robert
Gender: Female
Where born: Beer, Devon, England

which matches the Fanny Partride christening 1792

so the mother of Elizabeth Turner Chapple must have been the sister of Jacob Partridge who was Eliza Partridge Searle's father

FANNY PARTRIDGE
Christening: 09 DEC 1792 Seaton And Beer, Devon, England
Parents:
Father: MALACHI PARTRIDGE
Mother: SUSANNA
Source Information:
Batch No.: C051991

So Elizabeth Turner Chapple and Eliza Partridge Searle were in fact first cousins. Elizabeth's mother was younger than Eliza's father and Eliza was born much earlier than Elizabeth but they are the same generation.

As best I can figure anyway!

chrissiex Report 28 Dec 2009 20:45

And now I have a fly in my ointment, it is a work in progress you know, lol.

In 1841 this is the only Elizabeth Turner the right age in Seaton

William Turner 45
Dorothy Turner 35
Mary Turner 15
Elizabeth Turner 12
Sarah Turner 7
George Turner 4
John Turner 2

and she was christened in 1828 in Colyton.

So my tale may have gone off the tracks and what you really need is to get the marriage certificate for Absolom Chappel to find out who his wife really was and who her father was!

chrissiex Report 28 Dec 2009 20:56

You're welcome and please do bring the marriage details back to the thread when you get them! I can't seem to find another Elizabeth Turner for us in 1841 or 1851 so I am skeptical about the wonders I have worked lol.

I found Timothy Oldridge in 1861 with his wife Elizth born 1829 in Colyton so I suspect he married the Seaward and Absolom Chapple married the Turner but even that we can't be sure of yet. I will look forward to the secrets the marriage certificate reveals and hopefully not have to give back those thanks, lol.

Oh and I looked at the image for the marriage and it does say ABSALOM CHAPPEL in the index so be sure to use those spellings.

David

bruceabt 1959
here we go
today i got the marr cert for absalom chappel
it reads as follows
parish church seaton & beer county devon
may 15th 1853 absalom chappel 21 batchelor fisherman beer father james chappel shoemaker
elizabeth seaward 24 spinster lace maker beer father robert seaward labourer
x the mark of absalom chappel x the mark of elizabeth seaward
witnesses x the mark of frances lane x silas chappel
so he did not marry elizabeth turner as you thought he may have
but i have frances lane on my tree [as you see she was a witness }
she is the daughter of jacob lane 1776 - 1846 beer devon
& mary buston c 1786 - 1875 beer devon
so wondering what frances lanes connection is to the bride & groom

David

David Report 6 Jan 2010 20:40

her daughter elizabeth b 1829 devon her father robert turner
& a poss marr to timothy thomas oldridge in 1853 axminster

can we have a re-cap on the facts please - too much to follow and I'm confused?

Fanny Partridge born 1792 - Seaton & Beer, Devon
had daughter Elizabeth b 1829?

Was Elizabeth's father Robert Turner? Did Fanny marry Turner or anyone else that we know of?

Did Elizabeth possibly then marry Timothy Thomas Oldridge in 1853?

I'll make a start!

The persons of interest were intially these two women

Turner Elizabeth Axminster 5b 19

Elizabeth (Seaward) Chapple, cousin, was present at the death of Eliza (Partridge) Searle.

But I went off on the wrong tangent because it looked like Elizabeth Turner, the other bride, was closely connected with Partridges.

So the initial question was, what was the connection between Elizabeth (Seaward) Chapple and Eliza (Partridge) Searle?

David

David Report 6 Jan 2010 21:29

this does get confusing hope its not confuisng for others
julie
yes it appears that she did marry timothy thomas oldridge 1853

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 6 Jan 2010 21:32

Hold on, are we really interested in Elizabeth Turner who married Oldridge?

I thought it was Elizabeth Chapple we were concerned with. Elizabeth Turner is just the other person on the page.
