Might you be getting Joseph Pearson Sedgley mixed up with Joseph Pollard Sedgley ?

There is a public tree on Ancestry which has his spouse as Alice Cooper, born London 1864 (birth details apparently taken from census).

Although the tree is well documented they do not have any marriage details for the couple so have obviously encountered the same problem.

Can't see a marriage.........this will confirm Alice's surname
