Trying to find info on Edward Skinner b @ 1816 in Lingfield. Eldest son of John (b 1783) and Elizabeth (b 1791) Skinner. Believe he may have had a daughter Mary Ann (b @ 1856 and may have been living in Enfield in 1901.
Also Peter Charles Skinner (b 1824 my gggrandfather) m Elizabeth Grace Brunt 1850. Elizabeth G died in1864 but I can find no information on Peter Charles after the birth of my ggrandfather William Henry in 1853.
Any info would be very much appreciated as I live in New Zealand.
Thanks
David Skinner

First of all, you should remove your email address from your posting ...... GR does not allow email addresses, and may delete your posting.

Further, it is not wise to publish your home email address ..... this is far from a safe site!

Anyone who wants to contact you can do it through the GR system by sendign you a pm (personal message),

............... but in fact, we helpers prefer to answer in the open on the thread so that everyone can see what has been found ....... this helps to prevent duplicating research already done, but also allows more than one mind to work on a problem.

I think that this might be your Edward in 1861. I think the transcriber had some problems!!

The same Edward and Mary Ann(e) in 1871 .... but it looks as though he might have married again

1871 Census

Name: Annie Skinner
[Mary Anne Skinner]
Age: 16
Estimated birth year: abt 1855
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: Edward
Mother's Name: Sarah
Gender: Female
Where born: Newington, Surrey, England
Civil parish: Edmonton
Ecclesiastical parish: Southgate Christchurch
Town: Southgate
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England
Registration district: Edmonton
Sub-registration district: Edmonton

Edward Skinner 52 b.ca 1819, Lingfield, Surrey, Coal Dealer Retired
Sarah Skinner 60 b.ca 1811, Dorking, Surrey
Annie Skinner 16

Address:- Chase Side

To clarify the correction made of Mary Ann's name ............ the image shows that Annie was written first, then someone added mary in front of Annie, and crossed out the "ie" ................. thus Annie was an initial error by the enumerator which was quickly corrected, but the transcriber didn't note that change.

That is very interesting. William Henry was my great grandfather. He and his wife Mary (nee Hall) had two children, William Charles( my paternal grandfather) and Ernest James. Apparently Uncle Ernie did tell his daughter Mabel about some "cousins". Unfortunately anyone who could tell me anything is now deceased. Is there any indication as to whether E S Skinner is male or female?

Hi David

No, 'cos that is the only place I've seen a reference to her/him

BUT I did look at www.freebmd.org.uk ....... and the only E S Skinners shown were all female!

It's interesting ...... I don't seem able to find any of them on the 1861 Census .... I wonder if the family went overseas??

To my knowledge none of the family went overseas until my parents went to Kenya when I was 4 in 1949 (that is through William Henry anyway). Maybe they somehow missed the census. Peter Charles senior obviously died between 1854 and 1877. Strangely enough my grandfather William Charles was born in 1877! His mother Mary (nee Hall) did remarry in later life having been widowed very young to (I believe) Lewis Franklin in @1896 but I know nothing of him.
I always thought it strange that William Henry (1853) and Peter Charles (1824) had no siblings that I could find, and now you seem to have done it in minutes!

Have you informed Rambling Rose of this thread and the information found in it David?

http://www.genesreunited.com.au/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1195070&px=2

You put the exact same question to her less than an hour later so you might want to tell her not to waste her time doing everything Sylvia in Canada has done.

Sylvia I just had a quick read of all your work and about that correction in 1871 Annie Skinner to Mary Anne Skinner the person who made that correction can be contacted through the Ancestry system, is it possible that it is someone David would want to contact? I haven't absorbed all the details here, lol.

edit I see it is the same person whose family tree at Ancestry you have quoted Sylvia
