Julia, BVRI is British Vital Records Index, a set of 16 cd's that you purchase from LDS Church through the Familysearch site. I don't really recommend buying them. You have to be really lucky to get a hit. For instance they have marriages in Mere but not births.

I can't believe all that you ladies have done for me, I was amazed when I came back on today and saw everything here, thank you so much I have just been looking into everything before I replied to you. At last Jael is sorted out courtesy of you both, yes it is an unusual name that you wouldn't have thought it would give so many problems.
Do you think you could possible do me another favour now, I will put a new thread up so this doesn't go on and on.
Also could you please tell me what BVRI is?

In other words ................ she has taken the information from the Census, and assumed that Henry and Jael Burfitt are the grandparents of her children on the 1891 Census, where I think they are Jael and her second husband.



I wonder if it would be worth paying for Henry Burfitt's marriage certificate from 1885 to see who he married. You only need to put his name on the request. It would cost £7, but may be worth it to solve the question

In the same way, getting John Herridge's certificate from 1860 would show who he really married ..... I did find a John Norris with wife Jane on the 1861 Census, and believe that John married Jael.

I think you need to get a look at the parish records for Mere.

I've looked on family search with no results, and on the Hugh Wallis IGI site, but all that is showing on there is the non-conformist chapel, with christenings to about 1837. There are NO Herridges showing there.

This is an interesting entry if only because of the name of the daughter.

I entered jael, Wiltshire to see how many turned up with that unusual name ................. it is such a strang ename, and looks as though it might be a family name of some sort. This came up on he 1841, and then the family shows in 1851 but wife and daughter are shown on that one only as J Lampard

Hi Sylvia, this is a weird family isn't it, Margaret who was checking something out for me and I mentioned Jael married to either John Norris or John Herridge and she came back with Jael married to John Alford in 1861 but in 1871 John was married to Rachel so I gave that one up as I found John & Jael Herridge on 1881 census.
After checking it all out it seemed strange that is why I posted a message about the 1891/1901 Census. I have been on the BMD and found a couple of things but it looks like tomorrow I am going to be extremely busy sorting it all out.
Thankyou for everything you have done for me, I have just printed it all out to have a good look at. I gathered John was a relation but haven't been able to check that out either, they must be cousins of some sort will have to check it out with all of my other paperwork. Yuk!!!!
