Find Ancestors

Sylvia....Luke Herridge B1845 Mere Dorset m Martha in 1871 in Newport Mid Glamorgan. I haven't got anything on him after 1851. His parents are John & Ann Herridge and he is brother to Jael's husband. I have tried 1881 but with no success, is it possible to work up from 1851 for me please. I think I have his death as 1911 so he is around somewhere.
Also if possible Roseanna Herridge B1841 Mere m Samuel Doddington in 1864. He was also born Mere Wiltshire. I have the 1881 Census, he is a train examiner and they lived at 22 Bishop Street Bedminster.

I wonder if in fact he didn't marry Martha???

There are only 2 names on that registration, when there are usually 4. It is possible that each married one of the other names that should be there.

There is only one Luke Herridge shown on freebmd, the one born in Mere (mind you, this was before the days of compulsory registration, so not conclusive).

But nor does any other Luke Herridge show on the censuses, other than oen born in Mere in 1851 and 1861, and one born in Somerset in 1871 and 1901 Wales


I think they are the same guy!!

Thank you so much Sylvia, and Nicola, Yes I do agree it has to be the same one because part of the Herridge family (not necessarily this one) though this one is connected to Jael once again. The one of mine I am thinking of had their first child in Mere and the other ten in Ebbw Vale South Wales plus George Trowbridge another one moved to Wales between 1881 - 1891. Apparently a lot of the Herridges eventually moved there.
