Hi Julie

thanks for the update. I'll look at it a bit more closely later today (Sunday)

I've been out most of the day, and am just have a quick look see on here. It's 12:30am so I'm a bit bleary eyed.

We spent a year on sabbatical in Melbourne in 1975/76

........ and Lew will tell you that my best friend from grammar school lives near Mudgee ....... she emigrated about 1961 or 62! I have been to Mudgee twice since 2000.

Hi Lew,

I'm in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, NSW. Not too far away from you.
My husband George and I emigrated with our two young children in 1965 and I had my third daughter on my birthday, our first true blue aussie.

I have decided not to ask for anymore lookups today as tomorrow I will be out all day and won't be able to return the messages, so will be back tuesday. I am trying to get as much as I can before we go to Melbourne for two weeks on the 11th of this month and I am looking forward to that but am going to miss my genes.

Thought I would let you know but I have checked Harriet Foot, she was bap 29.04.1898 Mere - died 1862 Mere.
Married James Deverel 04.09.1820 South Newton, Wiltshire. died 1912 Mere. (83)
One daughter Mary Ann bap 26.12.1824 Mere. I found a death for a James Deverell 1839 Sept Bradford, boundary of Wiltshire. I think that sounds about right with regard to 1841/1851 Census with Mary being with her mother but why would James her other son be in the workhouse with their brother John if they are the same family.
Anyway just thought I would let you know, and I still havent got to my emails.

Good day Sylvia, it is now 1.19pm over here in Australia (sorry I did not find your question about where I lived until late in the day) I live in NSW with my husband George and this is his side of the family which is causing so much trouble. My father lives in Vancouver and my friend Delta nr Vancouver.

Yes to answer your question I did find Fanny and William Markham and it does seem to fit. I managed to put it all together last night, thank goodness.
Will be back shortly have to check my emails first, I have been neglecting them for all of this.

Julia

It was a matter of deduction

Thomas Doddington and Hester showed up only on the 1841 Census.

Then I couldn't find them any which way under Doddington mis-spelling ......... I even tried not using any names, just birth year +/- 5 and birth place.

No Thomas or Hester Doddington. No Samuel Doddington from 1851 or 1861.

BUT Thomas and Hester Taylor kept showing up

I finally opened the record and thought it seemed to connect ........ especially when I saw that they had Samuel Taylor b. ca 1846 on the 1851.

It was just too strange to have Thomas and Hester under one name but not the other on the different censuses.

Why??

who knows.

I'd like to know more about Thomas' parents, but that would mean parish records.

His mother shows up on one census as M Taylor .............. was she really Taylor or a Doddington.

It's really mainly circumstantial.

I am curious now though, how did you work it out that they had changed names to Taylor, bear with me as I am not up on the work that you do, you make it seem easy but not to me when I have a go.

Thanks Sylvia even for the changing of names it wasn't as difficult as the other ones I gave to you plus only one child by the look of it which makes it a lot easier

He must have certainly been up to something but it has to be the same family, we seem to be overlapping on this one, very very interesting.
