Do you know who Gladys MARSDEN , the witness was?

Maybe if we could find her linked to an Alexander and / or an Edward it might help.

I noticed that one of the witness's was a Gladys Marsden...sister? You could try tracing her, though that could be just as difficult.

Maybe get in touch with the local library/Records Office and ask if they could do an electrol roll lookup for the address? Maybe five years previous to the marriage date to see who was living there (and old enough to vote), maybe there will be some other family members.

it could just be me missing something on the 1901 census,

but i know from my own gt gt grandfathers marriage certificate the person he named as his father was really his grandfather, but he was the man that looked after him and he classed as more than a father.
but im not saying that is whats happened in your case.

No, they didn't have to produce birth certificate ... just as you don't now.

he might ahve told a porkie about his ......... or about his father!!

Not unknown for a father to be named when there wasn't one

or for occupation to be mis-stated

In fact, all certificates can contain porkies as the powers-that-be only know/knew what they are/were told.

I just cant understand as i have Edwards son's "Alexander Mardsen" Marriage certificate from when he married Henrietta Eliza Adeline Taylor 18th June 1923 (the day before their 1st child Henry Alexander Marsden was born) stating Edward Marsden as Alexanders father occupation Gardener & Alexander living at 3 Barton Lane Eccles which i presume was Edwards address previously? - Witnesses at Alexanders wedding were John Henry Hill & Gladys Marsden

Did people in the 1920' have to produce their birth certificate when getting married ?

Where should i go from here ?

Hello....
Could someone please help or guide me in the right direction as i have totally hit a brick wall...
I'm looking for Edward Marsden - Unsure what his wife was called but he had a son Alexander Marsden born abt 1893 who married Henrietta Eliza Adeline Taylor & they lived at 47 Vicarage Groove Eccles Salford Lancs.

Edward Marsden was a musician/bandsman & may have been a gardener yet also was in a brass band ...

Edward Marsden will have been born around 1870 ish - Sorry to be so vague but this is all the information i have currently.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
