Herridge family once again, this time Ann Herridge B1835 Mere Wiltshire m John Read 1855 so anything after that date would be well received. It is possible that they moved to Ebbw Vale Wales sometime but not sure when as most of Ann's family eventually ended up there.

Thankyou soph and Christine, you have given me exactly what I need. I didn't have any census at all I only knew that the Herridge family moved to Wales.I don't know why I couldn't find them in 1881 I did check but nothing aah!!! I looked under Read could that be the problem. Any much appreciated.

Welcome back Sylvia, you have all the information that I need, I have been trying to find births for the children as some were born in Mere and some in Ebbw Vale Wales but because I don't know for sure I can't say whether they were the right ones or not. You have answered the question about Fanny because they had the name Reid against it I assumed it must have been one of the other daughters that married the Brown and I have been going around in circles.
On the 1871 Census you couldn't possible find out where the children were born. The only Census I hadn't got was the 1861 and as you can see for some reason the Read family did not want to be found.

Yep, I assumed it was another daughter who married Charles ........ until I looked on freebmd for who Charles married, and up cam eFanny. Then I looked on the image, and it was plain as plain could be!!

I checked on the 1881 census for George and I got George Read (which is the birth name) Mere married to a Margaret born Blaina Monmouthshire. Blaina comes up a lot in the family. Andrew Herridge Ann Reads (herridge) brother. his son was married at Blaina so I am thinking this is the right marriage but I couldn't find a date for them only the one you came up with. George's birth comes under Read B1859 Mere 5a 22. I am assuming he was born in Mere and this sounded correct.

I've tried on the 1861 for John, Ann, and George, singly and together, and there's zilch!!

They must have been really mistranscribed.

It looks as though they should still be in England 'cos Ellen was born ca 1862 in Mere ..... but I've also looked on the Welsh census.



Re George's marriage ....... the census does say Mary A, which is why I went for the Cardiff marriage.

I'll have a look on the 1891 to see what it says for her

I am trying so hard to keep up with you and I miss a few things, you have to be correct with the marriage of George because he is on the 1901 Census with his father and his wife Mary Ann. What I was thinking though I have the marriage as George Read and Mary Ann Price Bedwelty 11a 123. It is possible that on the Census it had the wrong name. Anyway have a looksee!!

Yes William is the correct one, he is the son of andrew and Emma Herridge (nee Davey) That is the one that I have got to get to.William married Elizabeth Price at Blaina Methedist Chapel in 1884.
