Grandparents were married in the parish of brockmoor in county of stafford. What is really spooky is the address of william at time of marriage is the same house that my parents first moved into after they got married....and they never knew.!!! Both grandmothers had same name and were married on the same day!!! No wonder its all a mystery...ali

It is a difficult one, but don't give up hope. You will probably have to make a few orders for certificates to work this one out. Addresses are the key factor and fathers' names on marriage certificates.

What parish did your grandparents marry? It might be worth contacting the local History Society and see if they can trace who was living at the address on the marriage cert from the electoral roll. Or maybe someone on GR has access to electoral roll records for around the same year as your grandparents were married?

I think you need to clarify that William's father was a Frederick.

When I get time, I will take another look on the BMDs

I have found out that mother of william and siblings born 1902 was not florence and father was not george. I have spoken to reg office and they are sending a birth cert hopefully williams in the post but parents are not gladys and fred or flo and george. Things are still a mystery..... Will i ever get to the bottom of this. ali

Were your family always based in the Midlands?

I've found a birth of George W Reynolds (dad's brother?) in Paddington. Mmn Cooper Sept 1/4 1931 ref 1a Page 58.

not sure if this is just a coincidence?

If you dad's brother was a George, what year was he born and I will look to see if there is a mmn for his birth record.

I have been looking for Frederick's death record but can't find one that looks right. I have, however, found one George Frederick Reynolds age 28 at death in Dec 1/4 1902 W.Brom (6b 492)

I was thinking that George F age 27 and Florence age 25, with George F 5 months on the 1901 Handsworth census could have been Frederick with son George F born Dec 1/4 1900 W.brom (6b 789) and that perhaps William Sidney was born around the time his father frederick (alias George F) had died? But I'm not sure where Daisy and Gladys fit in?

It would be easier if we had those 1911 census forms!!!

I would think that the birth of John S W Reynolds (mmn Cooper) in Stourbridge 1928 and the Daisy Reynolds born 1903 Mar 1/4 Stourbridge could possibly be the children of William Sidney and Phoebe Cooper??? Your father's siblings?? You haven't mentioned any siblings for your father. Whoops, forget Daisy wrong dates....getting muddled!

I'm sorry, but I have to go now, will look in later to see how you are getting on.

I am not sure that her name was gladys at all it could be florence. pamela found a daisy born in stourbridge in 1903 and a gladys born 1905 stourbridge so it is possible. have you found where they lived? im wondering if the certif i found was returned because florence and george is nothing like gladys and fred. as for daisy being the oldest dad does get a bit muddled up. thank you. ali

Alison

Is your father sure that Frederick's wife was Gladys?

I have found a George F (frederick?) Reynolds and a Florence with their 5 month old son George F Reynolds at Handsworth in 1901.

I can't find an appropriate Daisy Reynolds who should have been on the 1901 census as you say she would have been the oldest but your father wasn't sure.

The thing is Frederick seems to have disapeared he is not on any of the census i cant find his death or marriage or birth. Weird eh. If anyone can find anything about him it would be great. thanks ali

Alison Report 12 Feb 2008 15:13

thanks pamela. I am sure that the william sidney 1902 6c223 is not the correct one because it came back to me as father not frederick and mother not gladys. hope the others are right i am going to send off for copies to see if they are the right siblings. thanks ali

Alison Report 12 Feb 2008 15:01

hi. Lets recap. My father is John william sidney reynolds born may 1928. His father was william sidney reynolds born 1902 his father was we believe Frederick and mother Gladys? It was William Sidney that had sisters gladys and daisy and a brother george they must have all been born around the turn of the century because Mother Gladys went on to have a further 3 children after Fredrick died. Sorry this is confusing.. hope i have cleared up the mix up. many thanks ali

Is this your dads birth record:

John S W Reynolds June 1/4 1928 Vol 6C Page 109?

It gives mothers maiden name as Cooper

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 12 Feb 2008 14:44

Alison, can we do a recap, because I am getting confused.

Your father is John William Sidney Reynolds born in Brierley hill 1928 to Frederick Reynolds & Gladys ?

He has 3 siblings, Daisy who may be the eldest (could you find out about how much older she may have been to your father to get an approximate year) And there was a George ad Gladys reynolds.

You are saying that Frederick's father was a William Reynolds born 29/11/1902?? surely Frederick would have been born around this year?

Alison

Alison Report 12 Feb 2008 14:37

I am sorry i cant help you exactly but my father thinks that daisy was the oldest( he is 80 ) but we dont know any dates. I do know that daisy married an ernie bloomer and george married a florence painter and gladys married a frederick turner. these must have been 1915-1920s. My father thinks there may be connection with Edgbaston birmingham. thanks ali
