Pauline you said from your first post that you had Dorothia's birth certificate and that there was some amendment or joining of names - that there was an x and Tomasso Richards put down.

Please please give us all the details from the birth certificate!

Pauline

PLEASE.........help us to help you.........

Tell us, word for word, EXACTLY what it says on the birth cert which you say you have.

Start at the left hand side, and work across it.......column by column.

We want to help........but we need your co-operation.

In the post that Pauline has just made, she say the mother and father were
her mother was called Andonia Tomasso and her dad was Ricardo Gerardo G tomasoa

At first you may think that Tomasso was her married name, but from the look up the other day there was a Andonia Tomasso born in 1910 and on the same page there was Ricardo Gerardo G tomasoa
So maybe they were cousins or something

Ok but Pauline you say you have her birth certificate.

We cannot find an entry for a Dorothia Tomassi in 1910 but there is one in 1910 for an Andonia Tomasso - so is it possible for you to type up the exact details from the birth certificate from 1910 so we can fully understand everything?

Is it possible that Dorothia was registered as Andonia after her mother and then known as Dorothia/Dorothy for the rest of her life?

Also I notice you mentioned that there was some kind of declaration on the certifcate - was this adding or removing the father's name? I have one from 1911 where the parents pretended to be married when they registered their son but didn't marry until about 6 months later but they then did a 'statutory declaration' to admit they weren't married and to remove the fathers name from the certificate. Seems very sad as the poor child only lived for 6 weeks and this was all done months after he died. Dont see the point of it!

Anyway - so if you could type up all the details word for word from the birth certificate it might help us to help you.

Ok - but Pauline does your great nan's birth cert say Dorothy or Andonia as her name as we've only been able to find one for Andonia in 1910 in Kingston. So if her parents are down as Andonia and Ricardo then she may have been named after her mother but then known as Dorothy for the rest of her life?

What address was she born at and what is her father's occupation?

I'm confused just reading through this post because at the start of Pauline's message she says she has been unable to find any birth details - then it mentions those names found on the birth cert. Huh??

Pauline - do you already have the birth cert of Dorothy?

Just had a look at the census on Ancestry and it would appear that Andonia is both a male and female name.

Not what you asked for ,but possibility a relative.....the details may lead you to more information about Dorothy.

Nationality and Naturalisation: Tomassi, Vincenzo, from Italy. Resident in Abertillery, Mon. Certificate AZ4144 issued 16 April 1934. . Nationality and Naturalisation: Tomassi, Vincenzo, from Italy. Resident in Abertillery, Mon. Certificate AZ4144 issued

Just for info....I just googled Andonia, and its another name for Andrew....so presumably the father not the mother!!!???

And Geraldo...... is Gerald.....???? 2 fathers????

Hi Whisky Soda

I was just thinking along the line that Dorothy might not have been the name she was born with, it sounds too English if her parents were Italian. My friend's father was registered as Evaristo, but was known in later life as Richard.

If that is Dorothy's birth registration why isnt her name mentioned?
