Last ditch attempt to find this women!!!!
My grandfather's (William Eric Smith 1905, Birkenhead) mother was Ada Smith formerly Ada Johnson-Buchanan (from his birth cert). Have got her marriage cert to Thomas Smith stating fathers name as Abraham Johnson-Buchanan dec'd. 1901 census with family as ref:

My problem is that I cannot find anything concrete prior to 1901 census and the only reference to her father is a possible death reg in 1886 (8b 438 West Derby).

Let me know what you find - sadly I cant seem to see Ada with the family at all but you never know!

Also might be worth checking out who the witnesses were too - that might yield some more clues!

Abraham on the marriage cert was listed as "Team Owner", any ideas???

Her address at the time of marriage was 14 Apollo Street, Everton.

If he was a team owner, it does indeed imply Everton or Liverpool .... and his name may be out there.

I have tried googling every permutation of his name that I can think of!!

I remember being told a while back about a website that listed professions etc in the 19th century, but cannot remember what it was (tried googling that too!!)
