Hi Pam,

Not having much luck finding this family as you messaged. I notice that most Daus are from Prussia not Hamburg.

try this site

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home

You might find something in there.

Yesterday I learnt that in Germany for quite a few generations back everyone was and is issued with a book that records their every detail throughout their life such as christening, marriage and death. If this book is lost, destroyed, as in World War II, the history of that person is lost forever. My friend lost her gg grandparents, grandparents books during the bombing in Germany and only has knowledge of what has been handed down through word of mouth.

Do you have any ideas about how I can look for the arrival of Johann from Germany? I can't find him on the S.Aust shipping records I have looked at, what do you think?
