My maternal grandmother, died in 1946. She had TB.
We believe she was of irish Catholic descent, but lived in east london and then possibly paddington. She had two surviving daughters and a husband who was from Ceylon (now Sri Lanka)and he was away a lot with the Merchant Navy.
Her name was MARGARET AZOOR or ABIDEEN nee GREEN.
I believe she had 4 siblings, Elizabeth or Lizzy, John or Johnny, Patrick or Paddy and Mary. I know little more about her and would like to know if there is anyway that I can try and trace some of the family. My mum turns 65 this summer and has been without her mum for 62 years she would love to know what happened to them all.

Do you know when she married?

wearwa Report 13 Mar 2008 21:13

Hi Janice,

She was married on 15th October, but i don't have a year and all that I know is that she was in her 20's.
I have spoken to my mum and she says that she is sure that Margaret did not die in Stepney. Also that she was 31 not 38, however i am not doubting my mum or my aunt but as they were both under 7 how much they actually remember and how much they were told neither of them can be sure.

Thanks

Hi Linda,

Her fathers name, I am assuming that you mean Margaret's father, his name was John Charles Green. I believe that they are from Ireland although I don't know whereabouts.

Wearwa

You cannot see the actual certificates anywhere online ................ the above are the registration details that you can find on www.freebmd.org.uk, between September 1837 and about 1920, or on ancestry or findmypast.

You have to buy the actual certificate to see any more detail, and you do that from www.gro.gov.uk. Each certificate will cost £7

I also thought that I had posted a message on a board looking for the BREWIN family that lived in CABLE STREET, yes the one thats famous for the battle of cable street.
Apparently the mother of this family was good friends with Margaret, so much so that after Margaret died her two daughters were taken to visit and were showed something by the mother of the family which she said used to belong to Margaret.

wearwa Report 15 Mar 2008 01:19

Also a possibility that Margaret and possibly none of her siblings were actually born in ireland now. They may have been somewhere in Poplar, we have a possible on that one so i will update when i have more info.

wearwa

wearwa Report 15 Mar 2008 09:59

Seems that the family or parts of it lived in POPLAR, STEPNEY, LEICESTER and PADDINGTON.

Hi Janice,
It's possible/would appear that JOHN CHARLES GREEN was dead by 1938, as I think that is when Margaret married and he is listed as deceased on the cert
