The only way you'll know if that marriage is him is to order the cert and see if his father is who you expect it to be.

I also think that this marriage

Joseph D Gannon marrying a Joyce M Randles, Stockport, 10a 1481, 3Q 1956

Is a good marriage and possibly his first mariage?

So now we know her name was Pickersgill when they should have married.... it looks to me like they never did marry, but carried on as such, all subsequent children given their fathers name etc. I'm looking for a previous marrige for him but drawing a blank so far.... i wonder if it was indeed him previously married, could Lesley be the result of an affair? did Joseph leave his wife and live with Audrey hence why she was not given her fathers name ?

yawnydawny Report 27 Mar 2008 16:58

Thank you so much why did i not think of that so Joseph Gannon might not be her father

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 27 Mar 2008 16:28

FOUND IT!!!

Lesley Pickersgill.... (mothers maiden name) Pickersgill, 1Q 1962, Stockport, 10a 812

Looks like her mother was unmarried, in which case her father is unlikely to be on the cert.

Why i didn't think to go there first i don't know!

if she was adopted, yes i believe she would have had 2 birth certs. Sadly the death cert will only give you the data the informant had.

Without knowing her birth name you are going to have a job finding her. It might be worth dropping a message on the adoption thread, explain you believe you have a relative who *may* have been adopted by the stepfather, and ask how you would find out.

We still need to find his original marriage, and his marriage to Audrey. I believe Audrey probably wasn't a Pickersgill when she married Joseph, she may well have used her maiden name to register her children tho...

I'll take another look at all the Joseph Gannon marriages and see if i can see an Audrey.

ok thanks how can i find out if she is adopted or do i kneed her death cert for that information and all so if she is adopted will she have two birth cert

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 27 Mar 2008 14:53

The death cert will only have on it the data the informant knows as fact. So sadly if they have their facts wrong.... so in turn will the cert be wrong.

It is possible she took on her step fathers name or that he adopted her as his own when he married Audrey....

All the other children to this couple are born when they should have been, where they should have been and to the parents you expected....

All except Lesley.... now is Lesley their real first name?

If your husband hasn't got a copy of his birth cert it may be worth getting it.

My mother in law was married twice and my husbands birt cert gives her maiden name + her previous married name.

ChristineinPortugal Report 27 Mar 2008 10:32

Do you have any of the other children's birth certs as If she had been married before they may show a previous married name.
