Find Ancestors

Hi im trying to find john george thorpe, he was married to mary ellen, they had seven girls that im aware of but only 5 of them lived over the age of 5yrs, the ones that im sure of are as follows there's lilian, patricia, edna, rosemary and susan. the two that didnt survive was margaret and sheila, margaret died at around age two years and sheila died in a hit and run accident at five years old. Mary ellen died when susan was about 11 years old and john died within a few years of that. I know that they lived in the nottingham and rippon area any help would be much appreciated. John would of been my grandfather and mary ellen would of been my grandmother susan is my mother. I know mary ellen was born in 1909 and died in 1960 in nottingham, and that john was in the armed forces susan was around 14 years old when john died

Have you got some approx dates for John George and Mary Ellen?

It is best to give some dates if possible.

When did he marry?
When was the oldest/youngest child born?
When did he die?

The info would then be:

John George Thorpe born c??? died c???
Wife: Mary Ellen born c1909 died c1960

Children:

Susan c???

Nottingham/Rippon Areas

This gives a better platform for searching.

Hi Christine, all i know is that mary ellen was born in 1909 and died 1960 and that john died a few years after mary ellen im lead to believe that susan was living with john in the rippon area after mary ellen died but i do know that up until that point they was in the nottingham area as thats where mary ellen died, thanks for your reply

ok, you are going to need the marriage cert for Church/Thorpe for fathers names

loads of Church births in Nottingham, around the time of Mary Ellens birth

which would have been their first born daughter?

Im not quite sure i know my mum is the youngest of them all i will try and find this out as i know when mary ellen died there was only my mum still living at home, as soon as i get this information i will post it on here

Ive sent messages to a few family members to see if they know what year john and mary ellen got married but as of yet have had no luck

Sheila thorpe was born in 1950 and she died 1955 in nottingham i know patricia was born in 1939 in nottingham, still waiting for other information on the others

The thing is- something that you may not be aware of, you need to have a pretty good idea of when someone married, (certainly after about 1901 anyway) because the 'looking up' is quite involved. prior to 1910 it is easier.

first child born such and such , suggests they married before or around that time.

( at the moment, its pointless searching after 1939)
