Hi Kay. This is the correct family but they didn't marry until 1885. Emily is a Bould. Arthur and William are Harriet s and George's children. George is from his first marriage.

Is it pure coincidence that an Annie GROVES is shown marrying Samuel Hastilow in the same quarter as George and Harriet??

could the year be 1874 and not 1873? a Jan birth would usually appear in the Jan/March.

Hi Susan

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I have all that information as she is my great grandmother. What I am looking for is the information on George Groves prior to his marriage with Harriet.

Thank you again

Very late reply.
Harriet Merricks married Thomas Bould 1862, she was born 17th March 1845. The couple had four children before Thomas died.
Harriet later married George Edward Groves in 1885 Birmingham, They had another four children. George was also married before having a child also named George born in London 1873.
The Merricks are my grandmothers side.

Regards
Sue

Marriage cert info

George Groves is down as being 44 and Harriet Bould nee Merricks is down as 46. Harriet's info for sure is incorrect as she was born 1845 and as I said earlier, my great aunt had written down both their birth dates. The birth date on Harriet's birth certificate which I sent for matches what my great aunt had written and the birth certificate birth date which I sent for matches exactly the date that my great aunt had written down for George Groves also. The census info confuses me slightly as George says he was born in Herefordshire.

June, Still Looking,

Thank you both so much for helping. I realise my mum has the marriage certificate at the moment. She will be back this afternoon so I will give her a ring and get the details.

Still Looking - yes I did wonder whether it was the use of a second name ie James known as Thomas etc. I can't talk as I go by my second name!!

May also be worth looking at the White guy will have a think

Will put the census details up that I have re Sarah, George's mum. I will also put the details of who I think George is on 1861 - this is a pure guess and has no firm basis but you may be able to help me rule him out!

Best Wishes

It looks to me that we have the age old problem of rellies using second Christian names!?

James Thomas? Thomas James?

Victoria

Victoria Report 4 Apr 2008 22:47

June,

That is the birth certificate I sent for and funny thing is it gives exactly the same date of birth that my great aunt had written down - coincidence or what? But is he the correct one. The parents are James Groves and Sarah Bass on birth certificate. James, I think must have died and I think Sarah married a guy called White but none of this is concrete as on George's 2nd marriage certificate it says father - Thomas Groves Gardner. However, I do realise that Thomas and James can look the same depending on the writing - could this be a minor mistake.
