Potty Report 22 Apr 2008 16:58

There are a some possible John Wood registrations in West Derby (which covers Kirkdale where the family were living in 1901)

No Potty - just the birth certificate for James - might try that though

Potty Report 22 Apr 2008 16:49

1891 census was taken on 5 April 1891, so somebody born August 1889 would only have been 1 on census night. But 1901 is correct at 11.

Do you have any of the children's marriage certs to confirm father's name?

1901 - 1889 = 2?
Potty I agree that there is a big gap - apparently there is also a William in the family that rleatives recall - he may have missed the last census.....what are you thinking?

Yes Potty thats the family - it definately says carter on the birth certificate for little James....
It's just that FAther James doesn't appear anywhere! and I can't find birth registration for Robert or John!!!!!

Potty Report 22 Apr 2008 16:20

Another son by 1901 and now Mary is a charwoman. A lot of the neighbours have jobs to do with the docks or ships - maybe James went to sea. Also, there is a very big gap between James junr and the new son:

Potty

If you James was born in October 1889, he would have only been 1 when the census was taken.

Potty Report 22 Apr 2008 16:07

Seems a lot of people are having problems with Ancestry at the moment but it's working fine for me.

So, the James Wood marriage in 1887 is not the right one.

Is this the family in 1891:
1891 England Census
about James Wood
Name: James Wood
Age: 2
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1889
Relation: Son
Parent's Name: Mary
Gender: Male
Where born: Liverpool

Rather odd for the wife of a carter!

The entry for Mary Jones same details as James Wood is on the complete index on Ancestry

Potty

Potty Report 22 Apr 2008 13:28

Just for general info - if you can't find an entry on freebmd, you won't find it in Ancestry's partial index as they get there info from freebmd and usually not as up to date.

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 22 Apr 2008 13:18

Found the Mary Davies on June Q 1887 - 8b 193. So it's not her. Also double-checked James Wood for the same quarter on Ancestry just in case there were two of him but just that original one - 8b 64.

Wonder whether this is the right James Wood marriage.

Well there's no obvious Mary Somethings with a number even vaguely like 64 so that's not much help.

I'll see if Ancestry can help.

I've found something - looking on the actual indexes for 1887 June qtr there is a Mary Davies listed with vol 8b page 193 Liverpool - but she does not come up on a search of the transcribed entries on Ancestry.

I have a sneaky feeling that this might be the missing entry.

Can someone else check to make sure I've got this right please?

I've tried on FreeBMD putting in just the 1887 Jun Quarter and pulled up a list of all the people marrying that quarter. No Mary Davies though.

I'm going to have a look at any Mary Somethings in case she was marrying under another name ...

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 22 Apr 2008 12:59

checking on FreeBMD that year & qtr is 47% transcribed so seems its still in progress, if you dont want to buy the cert then the next update of Freebmd may get your info
