The electoral rolls just give an alphrabetical list of names to each surname.
I can not check who lives in at a particular address, so unless James remarried I can not find out if someone was living with him.
The earlier records just give the town "Dunolly" in the later records I might get "George St. Dunolly" sometimes even a number.
If James' children stayed with him past their 21st birthday, it could help pin down which James is yours.

If you have the time, I would like to find out the details for Margaret Ann Taylor and James Taylor between 1905 and 1916. Not every year, just a few.
Margaret left James Taylor with several small children about 1904 and I want to know if he had anyone helping him look after them.
She went to live iin Inglewood with a man called Thomas Storey, but I think she moved all over the place (eg Sea Lake) but still remained on the Inglewood roll.

Where did you find such detailed information from the electoral rolls? The microfiche I searched at the State Library of Victoria only had name, address and occupation. Is there somewhere else I sould be looking?

I have verified with a baptism certificate that the Joseph Henry Walker I am looking for was born in Melbourne in 1845.

Saw the marriage of Joseph to Esther in 1868 but ruled it out as it stated that Joseph was born in Manchester !!!

In your posting you said that he was born in Melbourne.
