why is that interesting?

Hi Wendy, I have looked at Philip Clements tree and I am aware that there are some mistakes with it, However, I have seen the name Amy Tomlinson on other trees so thought there might be some validity in the name.

Unfortunately, I do not live in Somerset so it is difficult to check parish records. My great granmother married her second husband and moved to Yorkshire with my grandfather as a child. hence the yorkshire branch of my tree!!

I am also interested to know the relevance of the John short reference. I have quite a few Somerset Shorts in my tree, whether they are related I don't know.

It could be that he did marry Amy Tomlinson I just wonder as he doesn't have any info on the marriage and if other people take it as read that he's correct it doesn't take long for it to become 'fact'.

Hi, Could someone please clarify, do we think that Thomas had one two or three wives?

I think I am getting a bit burried by all the bricks!!

Sherbert Rose

Sherbert Rose Report 15 Jun 2008 22:02

I think that Thomas had a sister named Maria is it possible that it was his sister in the 1861 census and it was assumed that it was his wife, although I think there was more than two years between them

Hi Bev and Wendy,

Please excuse me for butting in but I've got some records of Parfitt births. I was asked for some look-ups a few years ago and found the wrong Parfitts. I've kept the refs because I'm a hoarder.

If you're interested in them, give me a yell and I'll pass on the refs. They're from overseas births.

Thanks Wendy you are a star. Sorry for not replying last night but it went quiet for quite a while so I went to bed. When you have got to get up early to do the school run etc you need you beauty sleep - well I do any way!!

And Wendy I have quite a few Challengers in my tree (27) I will pm you and give you access to my tree we might even be distantly related.

The reason that I mentioned John Short was to confirm that it was the same family in all census'
So do we agree or disagree that her name was; AMELIA EMERY?

Sherbert Rose

Sherbert Rose Report 16 Jun 2008 09:34

Sorry folks, I am confused again. If I am right there is still some confusion as to who Thomas actually married the three possible christian names being Amy, Emily or Amelia with two possible surnames Emery and Tomlinson.

We now need to come to some consensus as to which combination was the most likely. If I am missing something obvious, I apologise, its still quite early in the morning and it takes me a while to get my brain engaged.

Sandra I found the marriage and baptisms on freereg it's a good site when it works.
Definatley Amy Emery, all the children were her's and thomas' so I guess it doesn't really matter whether he married again or not.

Sherbert Rose

Sherbert Rose Report 16 Jun 2008 14:24

Just a final note on this. I have just found Amy's Birth date on freereg, together with her baptism details, confirmation of her surname and both her parents. As Wendy stated it is a good site. Many thanks for all your help, particularly, Wendy.
