	My uncle would very much like information on his fathers service in the first world war. All I know is that he was in the Sherwood Foresters (he survived the war by the way) Is it possible to get any further with just this information and if so could you tell me how. Much appreciated

	Surname would be useful Flaming heck there are over 3000 hits just for Sherwood as regiment on service records alone

	Sorry only just got back on the computer. His name was Orridge. and I have got his birthdate and place of birth as well but thats all I had heard that Ancestry was starting to do something on line but didn't know what information was needed

	Ancestry has 10 named Orridge on Army Pensions records Any idea of christian name and birth year

	His home address would have been Nottinghamshire - probably Beeston but not necessarily

	Was just takin a look at George Orridge - does say Notts & Derbys but also mentions Sherwood Foresters. Not found any mention of a wife. Does mention Elizabeth Ann 31.3.16 and Elsie 9.10.17

	He only fathered one child in the war (as far as I know anyway!) and that was my mum Ellen born April 1915

	Do you know if the service records are complete. I've got to say I'm assuming he would have been in the Sherwood Foresters as he was living in Nottinghamshire. Could that be wrong

	Have ruled out the George I was looking at. There is a birth for Elzabeth in 1916 but mothers maiden name does not match Ann, How was I supposed to know that bit of information. Maureen

	Maureen Hope you haven't taken offence - I was just trying to help! Don't make the assumption Jenny Wren, that just because he lived in Notts he joined the local regiment - not necessarily the case. Have you found a medal card for him, which will give his regiment (s)

	Ann, no I have no idea where his service medal would be. Like most people doing this, you decide to do it when most people who could have helped have died. As i said its a stab in the dark - my uncle seemed to think it was Sherwood Foresters and I thought you joined your local regiment in the first world war, but obviously from what you've said I could be wrong. Does that make it impossible - I assume it does
